This site is unique in that there are collection of shooters/hunters that have put in the time and money to become long range shooters/hunters.
It is one thing to buy all the equiptment necessary for long range shooting and another to be able to use it.
I have a friend that walks for miles and find's game and pulls out his phone and searches for a ballistic solution before he even aims at the animal and another friend saw him shoot an elk at 709 yards and watched as the elk walked 5 or 6 yards stumble and fall dead.That was not his longest kill but he doesn't guess.
That is what this forum is all about.Set a limit and then master it,set another and master it.Right now I am good to go out to 600 yards and hope my health holds out to get me to 1000 yards one day and thanks to all long range shooters/hunters that has schooled this old man.

Lots of people giving LRH a bad rap. Saw a lot of them at the Range. Enough that I turned the job down the next year. It was one of the most difficult jobs I have ever had.................totally frustrating.
I was invited on a Mule Deer Hunt in Oregon, John Day area on a huge ranch. The Family that invited me thought nothing of 5 of them sitting down and taking 900 yard shots a deer off hand. Two buck we spotted were feeding on a hill side, and I sat there and watched 6 people shoot over 75 shots at those bucks. They just fed over the saddle. One guy shot 40 times...........................

19 tags total in that camp. One buck was hit 5 times most were marginal hits at long range.......... I showed up with a 7x57 and got a lot of What are you hunting with that for ...........vast majority all shot 7mm Mags and a few 264 Mags..........

I worked at our NRA shooting range for 6 month, as the Range Safety Officer. Almost everyone that came it was into LRH.

Their's your problem right there.

There is a ton of non-factual info in that article IMO(never heard of it nor seen it). I am friends with a couple f&g guys and yes there are plenty of stories against LR hunting but there are lot more regarding horrible behavior that has been around long before LR became a popular word. There are also a pile of extreme range bow hunters giving bow hunting a bad name. There are plenty of idiots who think they can take a 500 yard standing shot with open sites as well, let alone scoped. The sheer amount of BS is off the charts. The facts are, most people don't shoot their rifle until a few days before season and that is from a bench to check zero. Guiding over the past 35 years I rarely encounter a hunter with a decent set of skills period. Idaho's issue has nothing to do with LRH and tags, that is pile of BS.

Calling BS on this story. 75 shots and the bucks didn't move? 40 times? What one person brings that much ammo hunting? 900 yards off hand? This story isn't passing the sniff test.

I shot 10,000 rounds from my 17 HMR at a record bull, off hand, 2000 yards. I finally killed it and it turned out to be a cow with some sticks stuck to his head. I had a 100% hit ratio, because I'm amazing, and he looked like Swiss cheese.

That ain't nuttin. I got a cow elk on the run at 30 yards by throwing my Hell's Belles Bowie knife. The lead was long, but the trajectory was flat!

I cut my teeth on longrange hunting by shooting PA groundhogs. At one time a 200yd shot was "long". As my knowledge, equipment and skills improved so did my ability to take small critters at greater and greater range. It took quite a few years but I was eventually killing groundhogs out to 1,000 yds. The only limiting factor for me was actually finding farms that presented shots at extended range that could safely be taken.

As posted above, it's additive.

I think it is more of a sickness HaHaHa
