Light weight 308

Anyone have experience with 308 win under 6lbs? Is the kimber mountain accent the best choice? Input from owners of lightweight 308s please. Not trying to spend a mint just looking at the moment. Had a model 7 hs that I just really couldn't get a feel for.

I bought my Montana in 308 9 years ago. Love the gun! The first year I had it I ran 27 different loads thru it. The average of the 27 different loads was .78" (from 110's to 180's)IMO, that's pretty darn good for a gun that weighs a bit over 6 lbs "all up" (scope, rounds, sling).

This gun is an absolute joy to carry and to shoot.

This I know, it makes me a better shooter as my faults in technique show up quite quickly

It'll spoil you for darn sure! I can't imagine not having a Montana in .308 in the stable.

I found one used for 800 in the montana. think thats worth it? did you ever hand load for it?

$800 for a used Montana 308 in good shape is a nobrainer if you're looking for a lightweight you can use for a long time!

My wife's caribou just fell to a .308 from a sub-six Montana on Friday. My strong advice is to search the thread "Montana Tinkering" on the 24hr Campfire IF it doesn't already shoot well. This is a great deal and can be even lighter with the alloy trigger guard, titanium bolt handle, and Javelin bipod if you need to customize it further.

My little brother has the Mtn Ascent in .308 and it is even lighter. Both shoot well for the lightweight platform that we are lugging up Alaska's mountains. If you want to bring a 12lb canyon rifle or a big bore boomer then work on weight loss and develop long range confidence. Show pics after your range session!

I ain't picked it up yet it's in Alabama. Got couple good lr rifles this is just a eastern us mountain gun

Never got to make a deal on the kimber. Picked up an rem model seven hs precision with a razor lht 2-10. Traded a mint m77 with two boxes ammo and no scope for it

I just sold a kimber montana in 308. It was light 6lb 7oz with scope. Accurate enough I suppose, but I prefer a tikka t3x 6 5 creed w/ swfa 3-9x42 HD that is around 8lbs.

Less recoil makes spotting hits/misses easier, and it's easier to shoot than a lightweight rifle.

You're probably better off with the model 7.
