Rifle primer question!

While I will generally opt for the Federal match grade primers, given the choice, and possibility of added insurance. Having said that, I have not experienced differences in accuracy, ES, or reliability over several years of testing loads of both the standard and match grades….Availability at times has been an issue.
I pretty much depend on Federal M or standards. But like you said that's dependent on availability. After that I use Winchester primers, and lastly Remington because that is all that was available. All go bang but I've noticed a loss in velocity with the Remingtons.

Anybody have a tried and true favorite on Primers? I need Large Magnum rifle primers, and suggestions, and maybe elaborate why? What is the difference between regular magnums and match grade? Consistency? .264 Win Mag, 7MM REM Mag, .338 Win Mag and .308 Norma Mag. Thank you in advance!
I'm a die hard Federal 210 215 GUY! But I found Ferderal match dramatically altered my POI...could have been just me but I don't try them anymore. (GUY is my first name)*

That's interesting. Between the Fed210M and Fed210 I haven't noticed any change in POI. These days I use them pretty sparingly lol. And my loads are pretty much established so that could be why it goes on unnoticed. And I rarely shoot under 500 yards unless I'm out hunting.

Once bitten twice shy...although I may not have given them a fair chance in any other caliber....but a 6.5 group went from 3/4" at two hundred to 2 3/4"....just going to Match...

I've generally had better results with the Fed210M compared to the Fed210's. But never say never.

I like Winchester primers. I almost exclusively use them in most all my magnum and standard rifle loads. I normally use magnum primers for ball powder for better ignition and standard primers for extruded powder.
pistols and revolvers I normally use pistol magnum primers from winchester or federal.

I used to use CCI but did not like them.

I use FM205, FM210 and FM215 for most everything. That is until I found a brick of old Win combined LR/Mag primers in back of my cabinet not long ago cleaning up load area that I completely forgot about! I used them years ago in my .270 and they are going back into it ASAP! It was a cool primer that split the "difference" nicely. I saw slight velocity increase with them. That data is long gone but I bet same will occur. Kept cool and dry so bet just like new.

Back in the late 90's I had some slow ignition on some loads with CCI primers and I called their hotline (back then)and spoke to a person that asked how do you store your primers and I replied in an old coffee can with a lid.He said your are supposed to store your primers in an open container so they don't sweat.Sweating can cause fail to fire or slow ignition so since then I store my primers in an open coffee plastic container with no lid on top. That stopped my problem.
🤔 all my safes are metal cans with stickers. Should I be concerned.

If we are talking preferences, I let the load tell me what it likes.
In my Lapua SR brass in 22-250 (AI) and 6.5x47 I use Federal 205Match primers. In my 222 Rem I use Federal 205 Magnum with 748 powder and regular 205 with anything else.
I run WLRM in my 25-06's, 264WM's, 270 Bee, 300 Mags, 338WM's, 375 Bee and 338-416 Rigby Improved and 416 Rigby.
I run Fed 210 Match in my comp guns, and they are magnums. I test both types, standard and magnum in all cases I shoot, regardless of size.
My best loads for my 505 Gibbs was with Fed 210 Match primers and that thing holds 150g of Retumbo! Never had a FTF.

Cheers.

MagnumMania nice to find things you didn't know you lost,I have been looking for my memory for a long time now but can't remember where I left it.

Man at 150 g a pound of any powder don't go all that far does it and I can't find Retumbo anywhere.
Last month Powder Valley had Fed LR Match primers and I bought 1 brick as it was the first primers I have found since the pandemic started.
I tried to get 2 bricks but the cart came back as 1 brick.Things are starting to show up a bit better.

Not sure if this was mentioned but wlrm's are slightly smaller than fed215's. I've noticed when experimenting. Smaller than 210's as well. Not positive but cci's are in between. This is just me pushing them in with a small press and definitely feeling the difference

CCI are smaller then Winchester. Barely though. However Winchester is taller then them all. All the primers you mentioned in the LR category do share the same cup wall thickness.
SRP are all over the map WRT thickness, diameter and height though.
