Have "we" created our own problem by calling ALL semi-automatic similar built rifles AR's? The first AR15 was made by Armalite Corporation which resulted in using the first 2 letters of their name for the rifle they produced. It has nothing to do with Assault Rifle (AR) designation by media and others. Savage calls their semi-automatic MSR which is correct terminology. S&W calls them M&P.

FYI The Federal Government ordered similar rifles for domestic agencies and called them "Personal Defense Weapons".

So why do "we" call them generically AR's when that term is so misunderstood by most people and a firestorm topic in the media?

So what do you think? Big deal? Don't care?

The media that writes for firearms refers to them as "modern sporting rifles". But yet if I say I just bought a new modern sporting rifle, I get funny looks. Maybe the "MACHINE" is like a bull raised for bullfighting. You just have to feed it, fight it, and defeat it.

And gun suicides are classified as gun violence too. Not one of my guns are violent. They just sit if the safe until time to play.
New naming for all things scary!
