I tried it. Not much success.
Ended up using The Dip. That works but comes with its own set of hazards.
Bought a cheap Amazon sandblast gun. Gravity feed. Blast with baking soda. Best option so far but in our humidity you have to have a air dryer in the line. Cleans the mono style great with no damage.

Thanks for the sandblast idea, does it seem safe on finishes?
My suppressor manufacturer uses Frog Lube ...

I haven't tried it on anything with a finish yet. My Sparrow is bare stainless. I blasted using rubber gloves and leather gloves and it does nothing to them. It is surprisingly gentle with baking soda but the lead and carbon come right off.
