Build velocity pool?

So what do you think of this thought? I will be putting my new build together shortly with Remage .270 Win 27" 1:8 5R Light palma using 156HH as main bullet. I was thinking it would be fun to have a pool for maximum velocity without ejector marks. Once max velocity is reached, 5 shot average. Whoever hits the average velocity either closest or spot on gets box of Hornady .308 178 ELDX NIB. If there are multiple guesses spot on, will place names on paper for hat draw.

The load will be defined but will be with RL26, Fed215, trying Sig Sauer brass (new and yeah I know) plus COAL will be set.

What do you think? We need some fun! Comments to make this better welcomed.
You're just using a regular 270 win case right? I can't wait to see what you get because I'm going to be building a 27 Sherman Mag off of the 300 prc case.

Yep, std .270 Win with RL26 which has launched 170EOL Berger at 3050 at no pressure out of a 24" Shaw 1:10 barrel on a 53 yr old Savage 110C. I believe the 156HH can be a real laser out of the 27"5R 1:8.

The whole point for me us to use standard brass, primers etc to get performance that really isn't associated with it. Plenty on LRH with .270AI with great results too.

OK, madder than wet hen! I have it all together but I somehow misplaced the dang trigger guard screws! Tore basement apart last night and I know I placed them in a small ziplock bag so I WOULDN'T LOSE THEM! How prophetic was that! So I just ordered set from Brownells and should have early next week. I have everything in a plastic tub for the build and thought I placed the screws in there as well. Absolutely no clue what I did with them So ANNOYING! Headspaced like a charm in minutes so was literally giggling how well it was going until I looked for the screws. DANG!!!!! WTH! So 🤬🤬🤬
Losing items gives we old geezers something to do, keeping us off the streets unsupervised. Best suggestion when something is lost, don't waste heartbeats looking for original. IMMEDIATELY run right down to store to buy replacements. Original item will be in plain sight upon return home. Guarandamnteed to work every time!!!! From the Old Geezers' Manual, page 32, as I recall......

OK, still waiting for the dang triggerguard screws but I will be posting up a teaser shortly thereafter. I loaded up 20 rounds of Hornady brass and 20 rounds of Sig Sauer brass with identical ladder with a Nosler 130 BT and W760 powder just to see what the difference in brass may be along with velocities. 54 gr of W760 is stated to be 3158 out of a 24" barrel so it will be interesting to see what happens with another three inches of barrel.

FYI - The Hornady brass is about 16 grains on average lighter than the Sig brass after full case prep on both.

huntz and handskills: You posted duplicate velocities already posted. See attached sheet for finding new one.
Thanks,
Didn't not think this would be so much fun!
Huntz - you are OK, my bad, you picked the 3085 first.
KSAv8r - please pick another velocity, I missed that Huntz had already picked the 3085

Here is updated listing of velocities. Please advised if I have it wrong.
Thanks

  7. 3174- 4 rounds left, I think I shorted ladder and may not run into pressure.
  8. Barrel cool down
  9. 3212- HOLY 💩!
  10. 3236 very slight ejector - hard to see but I think so. Double checked and no ejector mark. Bolt easy lift no resistance. Primer edges round.
  11. 3267 - no ejector for sure, easy bolt lift, primer still rounded edges
  12. 3284- slight ejector for sure, see pic. Right next to the Sig. Primer still rounded, easy bolt lift. I said stop at ejector and I know I am getting close to higher pressure so stopping here. Well above my expectation. Now on to step 2 with 5 shot average which won't be until next week.

IMPRESSIVE. well above my estimate, keep it going.

keep us informed on case life and potential number of possible reloads at those speeds. I like to see 8-10 reloads just hate to trash brass with 3-5 reloads.
