What caliber

I just bought a 280ai Savage High Country. Going to order a muzzle break for it before shooting it.It's a
little heavy 8.2 pounds unloaded no scope..What is foot pounds of this using a 140gr Norma ? Thanks John
Won't need muzzle brake...unless you are recoil sensitive. 140's will puff like a kitten. Especially that you will be around 9 1/2- 10lb all up.
Do yourself a favor and save your ears, and the ones around you, while enjoying your new all-around hunting machine!!

for what critters and to what ranges mainly?
Mostly deer but want this rifle to be for what ever kind of hunting from deer size and up.not worried about brown bear not looking to hunt them anytime soon.ranges will be 500 around here but want to git into shooting farther

Deer size to 500 I'd still be in 6/06 or 22/250 mode both with an 8 twist.

25/06 with a 9 twist and or your .270 will do you just fine as well.

Get a good trigger and LRF and off you go easy peasy.........:)

I don't have a fast twist 270 win, but since 1-8" twist don't bother the 130 264 bullets I think it should be fine.
Okay wasn't sure if same applies to all calibers.i do see what you mean though and most all factory .264 cal rifle have 1/8 twist and there's a wide variety of .264 cal bullets..just don't want to have it over twist and not be able to shoot the 130s I have if I would want to down the road

To double check email Berger and ask them if a 1-8" in 270 Win would cause issues with their 130 gr bullets. Or call the manufacturer of the bullets you intend to shoot. They'd be the first to here from customers. And they may have tried it already in their ballistics labs.

My old factory 1979 Rem 270 BDL Mountain will stack 130 BT's and Partitions. Won several $$ bills at the hunting camp shooting coin quarters at 100 yds. 140's not quite as good but plenty for hunting within 400 yds... and I think it is a 10 twist.
Don't over-think the 270 Win.
What I mean is... Don't try to make it what is isn't. Perhaps a 9 will get you stabilizing 140 to 150 but, It is beautiful at what it is with 130-140's. If you want heavier... go to 7mm.

Okay cool deal.thats my problem with the 270 I have now its a semi auto rem 7400 and it want shoot anything over 130s and last time out it barley group 3inchs at a 100 with 5 different factory loads and some hand loads and to top it off its got something going on not letting the bolt close or something mess up with firing pin so it's going to the smith also

Ahhh....That Rem 7400 is a semi... It will never shoot with a bolt action. If you want tight groups... you must make the switch to a bolt.

Only my opinion... I think if you are wanting a great all-around, accurate bolt action rifle to hunt in North America and already have ammo and reloading gear for the 270 Win, being you have the Rem 7400, then I think a 9 twist 270 will get you all you need for slightly heavier projectiles.
I wouldn't be concerned with all the new craze about heavier .277's like the 165 class projectiles.
It won't kill any better, but can cause lots of other problems trying to get there.
