Looks like the stock has been cut with a recoil pad added. Am I correct on this?
When obtained the Barreled action was used for a custom 280 ackley. The barrel had previously been shortened with a chop box.

This stock is from an early model cloverleaf tang Model 70 made sometime before 1948. In 1948 Winchester changed the receiver to what was called a straight tang which was used from 1948 through 1963. Receivers made in 1948 and later will not work in this stock. Also, all of the non-magnum cloverleaf tang stocks had a steel buttplate. This stock was shortened and a Pachmayr F325 field pad was installed. For me, the pad does not take away from the value of the stock. Early model stocks sell well and this stock would be desirable to a Model 70 collector. The large sear pin is missing from the trigger assembly but it could be purchased separately.
