Im looking to build off a doner rem 700 action, currently a 300rum.Im trying to decided between a 338 Rum or a 300 PRC . i just dont want a barrel burner 300rum. I already have a 300wm an 6.5 an 7mm rum . new to long range but can handle hard kicking rifles an i do reload.
May i please have your thoughts an opinions

i have no experience with the 338 or 300 rum but have decades of reloading for the 300wm and now 2 years for the 300 prc.
i assume it's about what type of bullet or how heavy a bullet you want to shoot. The 338 and 300 Rum no doubt will chunk a bigger chunk of lead Faster and delivery a A very nice impact but the 300wm and 300 prc can do A pretty good job Also. I enjoy the 300wm. It's my personal truck gun, carry gun and hold over gun. That gun Is a lighter weight gun that I can shoot 180gr accubond very nice. I use it for hold over Only on shots out to 450-500 yards.
now the 300 prc the newer gun that Replaced my other 300wm that I used for shooting past 500 yards is crazy accurate shooting 215 Berger. I'm very comfortable shooting game at extended ranges with this set up.
so to answer you question pick what you need or want and go on with it. If I was buying a 338 or rum it would be for shooting extended ranges to delivery a devastating impact on game. But and I say this tongue and check, I really like the 300 prc and 215 Berger. It weighs 10 lb with scope and it very accurate. Groups at 700 yards for me are super common to be under 3 inch, but alot of Big magnums on this forum shoot better than that. But for me thats better than what I'm used to shooting. also, in a standard reming mag Clip length of 3.7 they work very nice.

338 Rum would be my choice....but what makes you think it will be easier on the barrel than its little brother? And 300 PRC is only a MINOR improvement over 300 wm and 300 wm is everywhere when you need it! Just me!

Given this I'd say 338 RUM. I haven't loaded for the 300's but the 250-265 gr and they were pretty easy to tune.

That's called a 33 nosler or 338 blaser mag. Having lapua brass in the prc variant is the only draw/advantage. Am I missing something?

To be perfectly honest, after finding out that a Preferred Smith has a 33 Nosler, I will most likely go that way.

I had no idea that the PRC is the parent case.
