May Get to Hunt With My XVR

I'm running a Burris Fastfire 3moa reflex sight. Once I learned how to make targets that work with the dot system....I started shooting pretty good groups. In fact, better than I thought I could do with the 3moa sight.

I went with the reflex as it was lighter/smaller, and better suited my idea of revolver aesthetics! Plus, I'll only be shooting at bigger stuff at ranges under 150 yards....so the dot sight shouldn't be a handicap!

I shot 3 groups, in a row, that went from a large of 3 1/4"down to 2 5/16". However, I was only measuring 4 of the 5 shots fired.......as I have one chamber that consistently opens up the group. I'm now marking the cylinder, to determine which is the offender. I'll probably send the cylinder to a 'smith that specializes in handgun cylinder honing/truing, and see if it can be helped some.

If I don't get the cylinder fixed, I'll clearly mark the bad one....and make sure it's the last round fired. If I get to the point at which I'm down to firing the 5th round without a reload.....I'm already in "deep doo doo"! Having target grade accuracy is probably meaningless at that point! 🤔 memtb
That's odd to me to have that happen to a chamber in a cylinder . Maybe it happens often and people don't know it. Do you notice one that's stiffer to eject ?

I was on the ground next to a large log. That's a Burris 2.5-7 and it's the only one that's held up so far. I broke two Bushnells and a holographic sight before getting this Burris. The internal parts shot loose in the Bushnells and the glass actually broke in the holographic sight. This one has about 500 rounds through it, including some really heavy stuff that set off car alarms in the parking lot behind the range on every shot. I also have a 255 grain lead SWC load using Trail Boss that duplicates 45 Long Colt velocities (898 fps) with a SD of 9 FPS. You can head shoot grouse with it or cut the entire ten ring out of the standard pistol target at 50 yards. That one is far more comfortable to shoot.
I fired many rounds through mine and never had a problem with the Burris or and Burris I've had and same goes for Leupold. I wouldn't put a Bushnell on my 22 pistol. I'd never trust one on a big banger. That's pretty cool shooting a Coues from ground. I've hunted Coues bucks in the Cheriqoua mtns. In Southern Az. a few times. I can't remember the zone. 27 or 28 maybe. Been many years since. That sounds like a great load for Long Colt. It's fun shooting 45 LC out the bahemoth . Out of my 454 also.

I had so many extraction issues while using the Hornady brass....I was only paying attention to the flyer! The bad thing is, I screwed-up my notes and lost notes on which chamber.....will have to start over.

The Starline brass remedied the extraction problems, so I never bothered to use a dowel to individually remove the fired cases to determine if one may extract different than the others!

From what I've read, the "flyer chamber" is a fairly common event. I remember reading (back in the '80's) about some of the silhouette shooter's marking the offending chamber. A non-issue if only one chamber is causing a flyer, as the competition consisted of 5 shot groups.

I'm not sure whether it was a bad chamber or I caused the flyer, as it happed for 3 consecutive groups. If it was me, it hurts my feelings a bit, if it's the cylinder.....there are a couple of potential ways to address it! memtb

I think mine is 8 in. With brake. I'll have to measure. It looks like the one JLS has in pic. I was going to carry it hunting this year but ended up getting two 10mm's 🙄

I actually never measured mine. I seem to remember reading somewhere, that the barrel length is 8 3/8"....though the barrel overall length is actually longer when including the brake! memtb

Update: I just measured mine.....approximately 8 5/8" to the end of brake! memtb

WYO300RUM. If you are interested, I made a pretty sweet shot shell load for my 460.....which closely replicates a 2 1/2" 410 shot shell! It really does make the 460 quite versatile! 😉 memtb

I remembered it was 7 something without brake and 8 something with. Not that it matters !

According to Smith & Wesson, mine is 8 and 3/8's. It is one of the most accurate firearms, not just handguns, that I've ever owned. With the 200 gr FTX load, it will put 10 rounds into a half inch at 25 yards and routinely shoots 1.25" groups at 100. The 240 grain loads are good for 1.75-2" at 100 and 300 grainers about the same. Contrary to what some may say, it will lead up with hard cast bullets and heavy loads. That said, 335 gr WLNGC bullets will shoot to 2.5 inches at 100 at 1700 fps. Recoil on that load is interesting, to say the least.

Years ago I shot a six shot Group at 100 yds with scope on 4x that was 3 in. That amazed me. You kicked my butt ! Great shooting . At least I know there's potential there. My Ruger Super Redhawk 454 shoot well also but don't shoot it as much.
