preface- this is a long read.

i'm probably missing a few things that happened, and could have done a few things different, i know this. this is a build to what i wanted and due to some market related problems *cough cough* primers and powder. this is not a hunting rifle.

finally after wanting a true ground up put together rifle for about 8 years and debating calibers for 8 months, and then waiting another 3 months, it has happened.

i got my long rig done.

X-caliber, 270 1:8, 31" (with brake) barrel. throated for 170gr EOL. straight taper

Defiance Tenacity long action

XLR chassis

trigger tech trigger set to 1.5#

riton conquer x3 6-24, with their high rings.

Savage AICS 3.810 mag, with feed lips "modified" to hole the 270 case.

all in all, she comes in around an estimated 16lbs

bipod is still to be determined as well yea

this all started out as me wanting a sherman 7max, but finding a tikka t3 with a mag bolt face was at the time becoming hard to find at a decent deal. so it lead to me looking at a tikka with a 473 bolt face and to be chambered in 280 sherman.

then after watching mark and sam after work on youtube take a 270 and stretch it's legs, deove me to dive in to the 277 caliber that and decide on a 270 sherman. found a good source of 170fr EOL, and 165 accubond long range and started gathering powder, brass and projectiles. so i ordered a straight taper barrel to be able to stabilize the heavy stuff. got the rifle, chose the MDT chassis i wanted.

as time progressed it (as we all know) it became harder to find primers, and the primers i could find were way over priced. i decided it would be best for now just to stick with a 270win for now due to not having spare primers to fireform brass. off to the gunsmith i went. we got to talking and decided the straight taper barrel at the length i wanted wouldn't be a good idea on a Tikka action. this came from a smith that's been building rifles for many years and have plenty of rifles that shoot like a dream to back up his talk. Plus he's never done me wrong and everything i've seen and some of the other work he's done for me has been just plain awesome.

so i went back and started looking for an aftermarket action since it was pointless to me to not spend the couple hundred extra on a nice action. found the defiance action, spoke with the shop owner, and it was sitting at my FFL a week later.

while waiting for my schedule to line up to drop off my action and barrel, i went ahead and made my dummy rounds. then a couple days later, back to my gunsmith.

after dropping everything off, it was time to find a chassis. since i knew i wanted to mag feed the rounds, i wanted a long action chassis and mags to be able to hold an OAL of 3.575. after searching i finally got a decent deal on XLR chassis that fit the bill. roughly a week later it showed up on my door step.

fast forward almost a month from getting the chassis, i got the call a couple days ago that it was finished. picked it up today.

so, gonna get her broken in, sighted in, and then up to Wytheville, VA to take the class at Bang Steel. Then since Hawks Ridge in really close by, hopefully start shooting up there.

so yea there it is

If you've never shot long-distance before, Dan and forest Newberry are great guys, They will get you started fast, explaining everything that you need to know to get you going and making hits out to About 1100 yards, good luck, sounds like you're well on your way

Looks like you're ready to go. I've been working on getting a rifle ready to go to Hawk's Ridge myself. I'm about ready to try it, however with the system you've put together I feel woefully behind. Best of luck with a very nice rifle!

don't feel that way lol. this is something i've wanted to do for a while now, well at least a better part of a decade. i found a decent deal on the chassis here on the forums. i was close to getting a Grayboe stock but i'm glad i put it in a chassis. everything else, the cost was spread out over a few months

i had a 700BDL in 308, factory heavy barrel, trigger and a bell and carlson stock i wanted to take up there. had a nice hand load to take out to 1k but never got the chance.

There's guys on YouTube using Ruger American Predators out to 1K. Anything is possible. At the end of the day it's the shooter. Quality gear helps, but good enough gear will get you there too.
