I use 165 sierra tipped game kings.. in 300 rum not right twist for heavy bullets.. but man is it accurate...

Hello, I was wondering what you all thought about this bullet in a 308, it might be the GameChanger now, supposed to be the same I think. Shots 200 250 yards and closer ,out of a Tikka . I've also have Hornady 150gr btsp. What do you think. Thanks

Both have been excellent from my experience. I shot 140 grain Hornady btsp for 30 years in a 270 win. Different gun and gullet but the quality of bullets speaks for itself. The reputation Sierra has is also very good. Can't go wrong with either. I would let the decide what it likes best.

Between the 300 WM and the 308 Norma M. I and a friend of mine use 165gr ballistic tips on deer and elk with doing a great job. I have used the 308NM on 6 or 7 elk at yardage out to 400 yards, and putting them down. I have punch one elk bull from one end to the other. The only thing was we were pushing the 300WM at 3400fps, and my 308NM at 3300fps. I have used the 308NM in Africa, and same load, and my son also with very good performance. (both barrel are 26")
In Africa I felt that the 165 was a little light. Next time I step up to a 338 WM with 200gr Accubond @ 3230fps. All were one shot kills.
Recoil I moved to a Muzzle Brake. It change the 338 to a little pup dog. So I would look into a Muzzle Brake to tame that rifle. Personal I feel the brake is money well spent. I never let the recoil get the best of me, but why get beat up, when you can reduce that.

Aabout the only thing I use Sierra's or hornady's for is targets. Wasted a whole box of 110 gr interbonds in my Winchester 25-06, trying unsuccessfully, to develop a consistent load. Sierras, and especially the game changers, just vaporize at 264 win mag velocities. I tend to gravitate towards swift a-frames and sciroccos, as well as speer hot cors. I may try some 104 grain hammers in my 25-06 this year when I go to Michigan deer hunting. So far they're showing some good accuracy out of my ruger no 1 in 25-06, so we'll see.

Usta load Sierra 165 GKs in my 300 WM Browning elk rifle. Wonderful accuracy. Shot a big cow elk, under 100 yds., High shoulder shot. She was running and continued to run for another 150 yards. Upon recovery there was a clean 30 cal hole in the near-side shoulder blade and a clean 30 cal exit hole in the hide , far side. I was hoping for some Game King expansion but no luck. My hunting partner also shot this cow with a
338 WM, text-book heart shot. We split the cow. YMMV

I have used both the Sierra and the Hornady bullets you are mentioning in my Rem. 760 308 on Pa and Montana whitetails. Ranging from 50 to 350 yds. Haven't had on go more than 60 yds. Only on has had a lot of meat damage from hitting both shoulders. I am pleased with both so whichever shoots the best in your rifle. Good luck and happy hunting.

For Deer, a head shot ruins 0 meat, unless you want the Cheek meat, or plan on mounting it. The first deer I shot with my 300wm, 20 something years ago, was 1/2 blood shot. After that, I have always went head or neck, depending on if I wanted to do a European mount. I've always used 180gr bullets, because in NW Montana, you might run into bigger things like Elk or Bear. Elk I'll go behind the shoulder.

Neck shots are fine, and my favorite inside 150 yds. Don't do heads any more. Too easy to miss low (head movement) and cripple with a jaw blown off. Just saying....

I try to be careful if the heart as it's one of my favorite parts. I got to try the neck now!
