I live on a ranch in western South Dakota and am on my feet all day every day and during the summer and my feet get way too hot in waterproof boots. Most of the time we are pretty dry around here so waterproofing is not necessary majority of the time. Whats everyones favorite pair of non waterproof hiking boots without breaking the bank. Under $200 if possible. Thanks!

Sorrry, but I had to respond since that is an unusual request. Most are interested in waterproof or noninsulated choices. Good luck on your post and hope you find what your looking for.

Thank you. Seems like non waterproof boots are very hard to find unless you get into the tactical or military style of boot. I looked at the leather lined Lowa Renegade which is non waterproof but they are hard to find in my size and a little more money than I would like to spend.

I work and hunt in Salomons
Gortex Hiker boots...
Non insulated...
But they also produce non gortex
Hikers....canu usually find them in sportsmans warehouse or look on Amazon for best deals....i usually buy two pairs at a time....very durable but I wear them out in a years time.....i also change out insoles.....
Under $200...

Merrell, either Moab Vents or Chameleons. You specified hiking style boots, if you're rough on shoes I wouldn't necessarily expect them to hold up even a year. Darn Tough brand coolmax socks are nice for when you have to wear something more durable.

I wear Bates Tactical Duty Boots, the kind prison guards wear. They are leather and nylon, they breath well, I upgrade the insole and they feel like athletic shoes. The side zippers are a plus.
Thanks for introducing me to Bates! I hadn't heard of them before. I think their Maneuver Hot Weather boot looks like the one I will try this summer.

Do you have a specific model? I'm not having any luck finding a non goretex salomon boot for less than $240.

Look at the Vasque Breeze line or Oboz Sawtooth.

I would avoid anything marketed towards military/law enforcement as a standard issue or uniform boot. Just because the government issued them does not make them breathable/quality/supportive. LEO boots are definitely designed for paved over surfaces not ranches.

Those would be hotter than gore-tex lined boots I would think. Gore-tex breaths.

Might also look at the Salomon Sua Sponte, depending upon what exactly you are doing throughout the day. I like the ripcord laces and weight. I do not recommend welding in them though. Trust me on that one. I'll also second the Merrells, hard to beat if your feet like them.
