150 grain 3006...Who Shoots 150 Grainers?

I was torn between a .270 and .30 06. I decided on a .30 06 due to its bullet versatility and the fact an 06 can shoot a 150 grainer 3000 FPS which is pretty flat for whitetail.

Who shoots a 150 grain load for 06? I'm leaning on the Hornady SST for its BC and lethality in thin skinned game.
I do

I shoot 165 grain accubonds with 63 gr of rl 22 and get 3000 feet per second. I have used this recipe for years in several different rifles it has always worked for me. It used to be in the nosler reloading manual, I can't remember which edition off hand. BTW excellent accuracy also. My brother has killed several Elk with that load out to 400 yards

52 gr IMR4064 is your huckleberry for 150s. I wouldn't drive a 150 SST at 3000 MV if you will possibly shoot less than 100 yds.
Personally I've moved from 150 gr to 165/168 gr over 57ish gr H4350 around 2850-2900 fps. BC is also better, but at < 250 yds irrelevant. For elk, I've worked up a 180gr Partition loads at 2900 fps+ with RL26.

Most whitetail won't know the difference between 150 and 165 gr, but the 165s seem to be the sweet spot for 30-06. Hornady makes flat base and boat tail 165 Interlocks, as well as the SST. Keep the impact velocity around 2400-2700 fps and you'll make a nice mushroom. All shoot well. The 168 Nosler BT is good shooting stout bullet, and it seems to shoot better than the 165 NBT. Sierra 165 HPBT Gameking is a deer killing machine. I couldn't get the new tipped Gamekings to shoot well.

Above based on loading and shooting 5-6 deer per year, and 20+ hogs with one of the following:
2X Kimber Classic and Classic Select 30-06
1X Remington 760 30-06
4X Winchester M70 pre-64 in STD and FWT

Nothing wrong with a 270 either for killing whitetail.

Nice does a 0.010 jump fit in the magazine in your rifle?

How do you like the H4350 with the 150 grain? I was going to try Accurate 4064.
yes it's a hunting rifle so it has to be a repeater it's just a blind mag not detachable I've had it for over 25 years and I just started handloading for it last season. That load is very accurate and it was a very strange experience coming up with it that I've never had happened I came up with three charges to test this was the third one and it shot a Cloverleaf at 100 yards and was exactly zeroed with my previous load

Great thank you. I've got 165 grain Hornady Interlock boat tails as well. I might load them up with H4350.

Stammster has a great 150gr load there!
My Uncle Bart bought a Winchester Model 70 Supergrade back in 1938, and worked up loads for 50-165-and 180gr bullets. That rifles largest group is .75" @ 100 yds with 180's, and ballantined grouping with his pet load:

Winchester 150gr Silvertip
52.0 grs IMR 4064
WLR primer

My new rifle, (my son now owns the Winchester down in Tennessee), shoots the 52.0 load into an inch, but with the Sierra 150gr Gameking SPBT over a 51.5gr IMR4064 charge it prints 5/8" @ 100 yds.

This seems to be a universally accurate loading in several '06's, and worth trying.

It has been along time since I have heard or called a group a Ballantine. I have a history with the three ring sign, Ballantine. LOL.

We've been killing Whitetails in our camp with the 30-06 and 150gr SST ever since Hornady started loading them in the light magnums before I started hunting. Once I got older and started reloading I made my own version using 64.7gr of Superformance powder which would get 2960 fps out of a 24" barrel.

Over the years our group has probably killed 100+ deer with this combo, they kill well when hitting lungs but they are explosive on bone and you would loose a shoulder if you hit it.
