Help with savage sa cartridge

I have 2 savage rifles with accustocks both in 6.5 Creedmoor. Thinking of rebarreling one in something else. Looking for suggestions. Have thought of 284 win, 6 creed, 243 ai. Thanks

284 would be better suited in a long action for the heavies but can run the lighter stuff in a short action no prob IMO

What do you want to do with the rifle?

Probably just hunting, not too heavy a barrel. Researching 284, I know the mag length issues with short action but looks like I could feed 162 gr and not compress powder

If you want a 284 then I'd go long action or just single feed. I recently switched barrels from 6.5 creed to 6 creed for my prs rifle and I can say without a doubt that I like the 6mm creed better than the 6.5 variant. Faster, flatter, and less recoil. It's just a hoot to shoot.

243 and 6 creed are ballistic twins. The creed is alittle more efficient but if you have the stuff to load 243 then I'd stick with that. I'd go 7.5 twist personally

I agree with Creedmoor shooter. If you have reloading stuff for a .243 already and like that cartridge, I wouldn't hesitate to build one. I'd opt for a 1-7.5 twist as well. That will allow you to shoot bullets up to 110gr.

I have a 6CM.w. 24" 1:7.5" twist, and my main load is a 105 Hyb @ 3184fps.
Since I have not been able to find the 105 Hyb in months, I recently worked up a good load w. 115 VLDs @ 3087fps. I shot it this past weekend out to 1386 on steel with fantastic results.
A .243Win would duplicate these results.

If you are already set up for the .243, no reason not to chamber up a rifle in that cartridge, expect maybe quality brass availability. Lapua makes brass in .243Win, but that is about the only top end brass available. The 6CM has SRP or LRP available from Lapua, Petersons, and Alpha

Peterson makes .243 Win brass in both SRP and LRP. I have some in LRP and it is excellent. Both cartridges are good choices.

If, you like, the 6mm's, the 6 XC, fits and feeds, PERFECTLY in my short action, Rem 700 even with, LONG Bullets !
Went with, 1-7.5 twist and it shoots, the 80 gr Berg FB Varmints to, the 108 Elite Hunters into,.. "Bug Holes" with, a 24" Heavy Sporter, Criterion Barrel. And you'll get, much, MUCH better, Barrel Life than, the 6 Creed / .243 Win ! David Tubb, Hit a Homer with, THIS Cartridge !
