Hornady SST: Load to Cannelure?

The sst is probably my favorite bullet when it comes to terminal performance. Many drt harvests with the sst. I've had them shoot as accurate as match bullets most of the time. The secant ogive made them a little more tricky to find a seating depth that they liked. I shoot elds now but I still think the sst was a touch more superior in terminal performance than the eld.

I loaded up 180 grain SSTs over some Ramshot Hunter 59.3-60.2 grains to do load testing for a new Tikka 30 06. Instead of loading to SAAMI max length spec I loaded to where the cannelure is at the case mouth, about 3.240 COAL. Loads definitely compress at 60.2 grains but not too bad.

Anyone load these to the cannelure? That is how they are loaded in the factory ammo and it looks clean.
I always try to buy bullets without the cannelure. One time I bought some blems/factory 2nds. After I loaded up a bunch I realized that the defect was that the cannelure was not in the same place on every bullet. When loaded they looked really awkward, like I didn't know what the heck I was doing. They grouped great and performed flawlessly on game. To me the cannelure is just a suggestion. Not all rifles perform their best using some common seating depth, which is what seating to the cannelure gives you a common seating depth.

I did some seating depth tests with the 150gr SSTs, some to the canelure, some seated out near max mag length. The latter grouped much better for me.

I hate to admit but I'm OCD and that cannelure looks unsightly sticking far out from the case mouth lol.
Indeed, like these.

I used to load the 117 sst in my 257 Weatherby so the base was flush with the neck shoulder junction . The cannelure was almost a1\4" out past the case neck. Typical Weatherby freebore. A kid working at my local gun store seen a loaded round and couldn't believe you could shoot a bullet sticking way out like that.
