In the 1k or under, 6-24 category, I would look at a Sightron SIII. I have three of them, all on magnums, and all have held up fine over time. My first one is still on my 300wm and has seen a lot of rounds and hunted in some rough country. They are made in Japan and the glass is great.
+1 to this. Sightron scopes are hard to beat for the price!
+2 to this. I had 3 of them as well. Just recently let one go in the classifieds here (SIII 8-32x56) that was on my .300 Win Mag and replaced it with a Trijicon for no other reason than to try something different with a little more magnification. Currently have a Sightron SIII 8-32x56 on my .243 bench rifle (MOA-2 reticle...great for target work/not so great for hunting IMO) and a Sightron SIII 6-24x50 atop the 6.5 Creed (narrow duplex reticle). They're built like a tank, track great and like @dfanonymous said have great L.O.W (Light Optical Works) Japanese glass.

Wow it's tremendous I got so many recommendations on scopes I've never even considered!
Nice to open up my horizons!

Thank you all for your feedback. I will do some more research on these. Sounds like SWFA and Sightron are pretty promising!

Lots of scopes in that range will do the job just fine. But if it'S a thousand dollar purchase, why reward China with those dollars when there are so many made elsewhere? For me, and any American who feels strongly about our current entanglement with that country, it's "made anywhere but China!" Sorry Basinman.

Regardless which direction you go, give Doug at Cameraland a call. They're a site sponsor, very very knowledgeable staff, and you will most likely get a deal you won't find elsewhere and great service! They also have a reticle page with all the different offerings from each manufacturer that is very helpful.

Will do. Good looking out for the community members!

Hey there,

Long time shooter, but just getting my first bolt gun for hunting season (and some 500+ yard shooting for fun)
Picked up a Bergara B-14 HMR in .300 WM

My question revolves around my scope choice. I understand there are a plethora of great scopes to be had in the $700-1,000 range, particularly from Vortex such as the Razor, Strike Eagle, or Viper PST Gen 2. All around 5-24x50.

My biggest concern when reading/watching reviews, however, is that most of them have 200-400 rounds fired out of a 6.5 Creedmoore or a .308, and not a cannon like the .300 WM. These copes withstanding the recoil is my concern.

My question is this: Are there any scopes in the sub $1k price point that have a history of doing better on high recoil-impulse rifles than others?
Just in my short time researching, I'm finding that these scopes are ALL subject to bad batches, and that the whole "Made in Phillipines" vs. "Made in China" doesn't actually translate to better or worse QC. Doesn't help the Strike Eagle is so new either from a history comparison perspective either.

Thoughts/opinions (other than the "gitchu a $2,400 NF") are appreciated!
Bought a HMR-PRO in 300 WM. Have an "older" 4.5X14X50 Luppy on top. Does a Fine job and love the Firearm.
picture is a Small Bore, 50 Yd, reduced for firing at 50'. Shot at 100 yds! Cross hairs almost cover the 10 ring. Mostly guessin?

Seems like whenever anyone asks for a scope recommendation for Hunting under 600 Yards, many here are not willing to budge from Ultra Long Range Mode. I've even seen some recommend NightForce for tree squirrels! 🤣

The other knee jerk response you see a lot is when someone is hoping to find a suitable scope in the 500-$800 range is someone always recommends scopes that normally sell in the $1300-1600 range. Sure would be sweet to be able to buy a $1300 scope for less than $700 (I've done it before) but that isn't always available and isn't necessarily helpful to someone looking to buy a new scope and not willing to wait til a bargain comes along.

As for less expensive scopes that can take a beating and remain unscathed, Bushnell Elite scopes are tested to withstand 10,000 375 H&H recoils. Riton is another tough scope that performs above its price. They have a big choice of reticles too and glass is good/dollar.

Bushnell Nitro is made in South Korea (our ally). I have one and it has been a very good performer.

Burris makes some very good scopes too, if you can find one on sale or purchase a "blemished" or "display" you can save a bunch of money on one of their better scopes.

I like a quality scope with a lifetime warranty and plenty of eye relief. I tell my swiss wife if I were swiss, I am sure I would have a Zeiss!
That's ok, my Leupolds are great. Good luck in your search.

I picked up a

Leupold Mark 4 Long Range Tactical M1 Rifle Scope 30mm Tube 4.5-14x 50mm

from MIdway for $699. After I got it and stuck it on my rifle, got sighted in, as fast as I could I ran back to the house and ordered another one. -WW
