Remington Bankruptcy

It is becasue too many people read the internet instead of looking at the guns. The ones made the last 5 to 8 years are better than the JM guns made the last 5 years Marlin was building them and very nearly as good fit and finish wise as the JMs from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. I have owned a number of both so it isn't just opinion. I still own two 80s era JMs and one 2015 Guide gun.
Edit, replied to wrong post.

As for Winchester, there is no Winchester Repeating Arms Company. It is a trademark & IP owned by Olin Corp and Licensed to FN Herstal which allows Browning and FN to produce Winchester Rifles.

A similar arrangement is in the Bankruptcy settlement for Remington. Vista gets the Trademarks and Roundhill Group gets the Ilion plant and IP for Ilion products. They also get a pistol Barrel Plant in TN. Roundhill will receive license to the Remington trademarks. Their stated intent is to continue manufacture of Remington products as noted in an earlier post.

Vista Outdoor sold off Savage with the express intent of not owning a gunmaker. In this case it appears that Roundhill was created to allow this separation (my opinion). The Vista and Roundhill agreements are contingent on each other.

Read the article I attached. It gives the whole story but short form is a bunch of thirty something smart guy finance guys loaded it with so much debt it couldn't carry the load no matter how profitable they were.
Was that the finance company that bought it? I read that it was tied to anti gun funding.

There are a lot of current news briefings about who is buying what in this process. Simple google search for "Remington" brings up All you need. But the initial article Posted early on this thread was very thorough in laying out what caused it. It is long article but worth the read.

here is a link that is more info on who is buying what.

Here is one about the new owners touring the plant.

People are people and are going to attempt improvement on a product. The Remington people should have known that before using the Walker trigger. I have replaced all my current (since about 1990) Remington triggers with after market clones. They had an excellent trigger in the 721's, 722's, and early 700's. Why fix something that isn't broken?

I've been trying to call Remington for the last couple of days, no answer ( offices not open ). I wonder if this is due to the bankruptcy or COVID.

I think they are furloughed right now. Info is sparse. The impact to the "village" of Ilion is 1/6th of the local economy. I'm sure they know it could be a permanent closure at that location. Only the new owners could say. I drove by there about 5 years ago, but it was on the weekend and it was closed. Wanted to see the museum. Sad.

Just wanted to get the thoughts of the group on Remington's bankruptcy, buyout and split up...understand Remington has been bashed for years with the trigger fiasco and poor customer service. However, there are some really good Remington products still out there for the average joe.

what are all the rem 700 action guys gonna do? are we buying other actions and brands? are we getting zero customer service now?

what are your recommendations for switching to other brands and why?

Thanks.

I for one am kinda sad about this whole ordeal. I knew it was coming a couple years ago when I saw Remington R1-1911 slides on eBay and CDNN for under a hundred bucks.

Remington was an American institution and I have proudly owned many of their rifles and shotguns. They had some fails but the things they got right have spread the world over. You'll find 700 pattern rifles darn near anywhere there are professional shooters.

We'll miss you Remington....thanks for over 100 years of American firepower!!!

The adverse impact of this in the Mohawk Valley area cannot be understated. Manufacturing left years ago and there are not many good manufacturing jobs around that area at all. This is a sparsely settled area as well so skilled jobs like at Remington will be hard to find elsewhere. I used to live east of Ilion and drove by all the time and stopped at museum one but didn't have time to go through all of it and now that I don't live close, wish I had done so.

This an email I sent to Rem Arms the new owner of the gun maker portion of Remington.
I have a Remington 870 Express 20 gauge youth shotgun. I am the original owner purchased 20+ years ago. This weekend my great nephew shot his first turkey and after firing the weld at the barrel/magazine ring broke. What it the procedure for having Remington to repair this gun?

After my son outgrew this gun, many children of family and friends have used this shotgun. Just my luck I have a dozen Remingtons

This their response:
Thank you for contacting RemArms, LLC,

RemArms, LLC. is a newly formed entity that acquired the Remington firearms division from Remington Outdoors Company. We are working diligently to obtain all necessary regulatory licenses and become operational. RemArms will be producing Remington branded firearms soon at the historic Ilion, NY facility where Remington has been produced for more than 200 years Our website, www.remarms.com. is now online. Production of legacy Remington firearms is on track to begin in early 2021.

Due to the nature of the acquisition, RemArms LLC. is unable to service existing Remington firearms, honor any warranty or recall offered by the Remington Outdoors Company. As a show of our commitment to the Remington brand and its customers, once we become fully operational, we will do what we can to assist in resolving issues you may have with Remington product purchased through the Remington Outdoors Company.

We hope you appreciate the constraints that limit our ability to take care of firearms or other products made prior to the RemArms LLC acquisition of Remington firearms from the Remington Outdoors Company. In the future we will service product produced by RemArms, utilizing the highest standards available.

If you have any reason to believe that your firearm is not functioning as it is intended, please discontinue its use immediately and take it to a qualified gunsmith for inspection.

Please do not send your firearms to any Remington facility or repair center. If a firearm or other product is shipped to either Remington or a repair center, the delivery will be rejected.

If you seek repair services for your pre-RemArms-LLC "Remington" firearm, below is a list of repair centers who in the past serviced or repaired Remington firearms. Feel free to contact them about your firearm. For avoidance of doubt, these repair centers are completely independent of RemArms and are not RemArms' agents, contractors, or affiliates. As such, RemArms does not endorse, guarantee, or warranty their work in any way whatsoever, and disclaims any and all liability in connection therewith. Additionally, you will be solely responsible for any charges incurred in connection with their services.

Why do you find this to be anything other than normal course of events?
Remington Arms Company went full-monty bankrupt/sale of assets.
Assuming warranty liability for those manufactured since '16 would be reserves/monetary "hit" on the balance sheet that was unnecessary. Why would they?

I'm more curious as to why this is even an issue with you- Remington had a typical one-year warranty on their firearms, until their 200th anniversary in 2016 when they introduced a limited lifetime warranty, no doubt in a last-gasp attempt to increase their numbers.

If Remington Arms were still in business today, you'd still be paying them to repair your older out-of-warranty firearms- no different than paying a smith as they're telling you (and probably saving money anyway).

For anyone who cares...

Vista Outdoors purchased the Lonoke ammunition facility and the facility was back running full bore last month.
Roundhill purchased the firearms business- sans Marlin
Ruger purchased Marlin
JJE Capital: DPMS, H&R, Stormlake, AAC (gag), and Parker
Franklin Armory: Bushmaster
Sportsman's Warehouse: Tapco

Roundhill finally reached a preliminary agreement with the United Mine Workers at the Ilion factory last month, so hopefully they'll be up and running again soon. I need receivers to build rifles!

I think one would be better off buying aftermarket reproduction parts anyway. The last decade(s) or more saw a lot of quality decline in production guns and parts.
But it's the "small block Chevy" of design and is the basis for so many aftermarket reproduction parts, assemblies and improvements.

You're joking, right? A 20+ year old shotgun that has been handled and mishandled by countless small humans had a weld break on the barrel? And you want a new owner to fix or replace the barrel?

If you don't want to buy a new barrel for it, send it to me and I'll find a way to get it back in service for my friends/family.
