Meopta vs. Nightforce ??

Here's one I need some help with please. Does anyone have a Meopta (preferably Meostar R1 4-16x44 Mil Dot) and a Nightforce that can give me a head to head comparison? I'd love to hear from anyone who has used both and can give me an accurate comparison too. I know the Nightforce is probably a superior piece of glass, but they are also more expensive... Just reading the forums, Nightforce seems to be the favorite by far on this sight. Pricewise, they are a little more than I usually spend, but it seems like you get what you pay for in high end scopes. I usually buy the higher end Leupolds (buy American you know..) but I stepped out and bought the Meopta and have been thrilled by it's performance. Is the Nightforce that much better? If so, what makes it that much better (enough to justify another $300+). I welcome anyone who has both or has used both, or just informed opinions. I use my scopes mostly for hunting. My lease does give me the opportunity for 800 yard+ shots if I feel like it's a good humane shot. Let me hear some feedback please. Thanks, hopt

This is sorta apples to oranges. The Meopta is European optics (they make Cabela's Euro styled binos) and will have better glass than the NF. However, the specs, features, finish, QC, and warranty service will be better than Meopta. The NF was designed from the ground up to be a tactical scope, the Meopta is a tac-styled hunting scope.

The NF is a safe bet for the money, and you will be able to dial in long range. The Meopta won't get you too far.

Thanks for the reply, i'm assuming here as far as the glass goes. I have a Meostar R1 4-16x44 on a Browning Eclipse 7 mag. I just keep hearing the raves about the nightforce scopes, wondering how I've lived this long without one......!!

Are you disagreeing about the quality of the glass based on "don't have 'em both on hand" or have you compared the two scopes? I'm curious if this is based on your examination? Someone else's examination and opinion? Or are you just content with Nightforce based on the one(s) you own without having compared them to the Meopta. I'm certain Scott has looked both scopes over carefully prior to posting his comments. That's what he does for a living. Examine and sell optics. He's pretty good at comparing glass. Oh... he uses scopes too, so he has more than a passing interest in getting it right.

I just got through talking with 2 very well known Long range shooters and they had just tested the New Sightron III 8-32 vs. Nightforce and the New Sightron came out on top clearer to the edges etc. I also have heard that NFS has had some QC problems and in fact that US optics are the choice now for the SF snipers. I hope this helps you out I own neither so I can't help anymore than this information.

Can anyone tell me who has the best prices and/or deals on the nightforce nxs? i probably want the 50mm. I've just about talked myself into buying one, I just need to know who is selling for less or better said, who actually wants to sell a scope..!! Please keep me posted..

I think nightforce sets there prices, so most people are going to be pretty close on price.

I own 2 of the Meopta 4X16X44 scopes and I own 3 3.5X15X50 NXS and one 5.5X22X50 and one 2.5X10X24. Except for the 2.5X10X24 the NXS IIMHO has the best view and the best turrets. If you are in the market for a true long range tough dependable scope with an excelent warrenty then Nightforce with out a dought.

Nightforce has a Special Ops. contract, but they are not the only scope the Special Forces use.

This scope was in the theater of operation when an AK-47 bullet completely pentrated the tube. The soldger taped over the holes and used the scope for 3 more days. He stated that the scope still shot to with in 1/4 MOA at 500 Meters. IMHO NXS scopes are well worth the cost of admission

from all the input i'm getting from various sources, the nightforce is the ultimate "bomb"....everyone that has one one just goes on and on about them, and those who have used them want to buy one ! i haven't had one single person speak pooly of the nightforce. what i seem to hearing the most of is that they trully excel at longer distances. it's almost like the further the better..! does this input seem to match the opinions of those of you lucky enough to have/own one? i decided today that i don't know how i've lived this long w/o one, and i will have one. (after i take the family to gulf shores, alabama on vacation. i can talk my way out of most anything, but bringing home a $1200-$1400 scope 5-6 days before we leave would put me to the ultimate test.

if anyone has a nxs 3.5-15x50mm or even the 5.5x22x50mm for sale or trade(for nice stuff, not junk) please let me know. Thanks tom (hopt)
