I currently have 124 hammers waiting on my bench to load up with H4895. Considering I was at 3260 with the 137s it should be fun. Did find 1lb of 414 but I am gonna see how this works first since I have more H4895 and am already halfway down the road with this one.
Bean, I was wondering what seating depth you ended up with on the 124's in the '06, the 137's I just went mag length and had plenty of bullet in the neck, with the 124's it would be falling out. I was leaning towards getting at least two of the "rings" in the case neck.
Also gonna run some 110's in the wifes 20' Creedmoor with Staball and Varget to see which is likes.
I want to play with some absolutes but with powder and primer at a premium I am keeping the experimenting to a minimum.

Yes. Hammer Bullets are awesome. Super easy to tune to your rifle. Devastating results on game. Little to no meat damage when placed properly.
The important thing with Hammer Bullets, and also probably most other monolithic bullets, is that you replace mass with speed. A cup and core bullet will lose upwards of 50% of its mass when it enters the animal. For many designs, this is by intent. in other words, for old fashion lead bullets, if you want a 100 grain shank to exit, you got to hit the animal with a 180 grain bullet. This is to allow for the mass that is lost.
For Hammer Bullets, you won't lose nearly this much mass, and the mass that is lost, is lost in the form of copper pellets that do their own damage. In other words, no mass goes to waste with a Hammer bullet. Consequently, you can shoot a much lighter bullet than a traditional cup and core, which means you can run them super fast. And, thus, get even more killing affect.
It's win-win when changing to Hammer bullets.

Just pickin' nits. Certainly no offense meant, but the original 250-3000 Savage load was built around a lightly constructed 87-grain bullet. Worked well in some cases, horrible in others. If 90-grain Hammers had been available ol' Ned may have re-thought the .257.

You won't be disappointed. I load them in 7 different cartridges. The amount of damage the 124 gr Hunter did on a "2-fer" of lined up javalina was amazing. First one dropped and the one behind it basically was eviscerated by the shank. I'm sure it would have taken out 3 if another was lined up behind the other 2.
I also have a load with the new 123 gr Absolute Hammer. It's running 100 fps faster with BL-(C)2. If you go this route, let me know and I'll send you my load info.
