I'll carry an 8 lb rifle that shoots 1.00" at 800 yds and 4.00" at 1,571 yards all day and tomorrow.

Can you zero you scale? Which scope?
I have a 30 Sherman same barrel same stock, with a pierce titanium action, bolt, action screws.
Lighter Hastings recoil pad, ti brake, tally rings and a March scope. And mine come in at 8.5lbs so not saying my scale is not off but one of ours is and I would be happier if it was mine.
I'm building a light weight now which would be suitable for sheep ground.

I agree with a statement made midway through this thread. Instead of shaving ounces from a rifle to get it to the ultra light range we can easily shed body or pack weight. I know I can.

Salmon river make a titanium brake that is very light and works well worth a look.
Thanks. This rifle will use a suppressor almost exclusively. I'm running the tb mount which with the suppressor removed has some braking effect.

That weight is doable. I just built a 7 SAUM with similar specs (anTi X, 22" Proof, AG, Zeiss V4, Ultra 7) and I am under 9lbs loaded.

My 7mm-08 is a blued Remington 700 bdl long action with a stainless mountain contoured 22" barrel and comes in right under 8 pounds with the scope, cartridge carrier, and sling on it.

I'd appreciate any feedback on any tips/tricks for how to successfully make an ultralight rifle more stable to shoot at longer ranges. My old-school Remington 700 KS Mountain rifle (custom shop) has a very light kevlar stock and light-contour barrel. The glass is an old Leupold Vari-X III 2.5-8x in Conetrol rings/bases. In .280 Remington, the recoil is very manageable.
Lighten the trigger and practice shooting prone off a pack, or get a sturdy carbon fiber bipod.

As for losing weight vs lighter gear if someone lost 5lb say do they really feel like they are carrying 5lb less?
I know I am nearly 40lb over my ideal weight. That sounds a lot but that's saying my height and build (173cm medium build) should only weigh about 71kg. A figure I found online. Now I know I'm not big but I'm not slim either. My stomach doesn't protrude so much so I'm not to concerned. I'm healthy but not fit. I'm active but don't excercise.
So my point is if I lost 20lb , I know I can if I commit. Will a ifeel so much better or easily carry a heavy load hunting. I'm talking about weight loss not intense excercise.
I'm sure losing a bit helps for sure but losing 2lb might not make me think I won't care to carry a 10lb if I'm hunting in the mountains.

If I take up mountain hunting I won't be able to take beer in that might help.
With a healthy appetite for lollies, chocolate, cheese,salami and good food I need to be careful to make better choices.
Neither my brother or I are big! , But both realise we should easily be 20lb lighter. His knees would benefit for sure. He's to young for replacement and he's lucky he's office based these days cause he has dicky knees.
I like 7mm-08, it's a great little Round.
I have used a 7mmRm and own a .300wm, I opted to build a .280ai a lightweight build on a Tikka action.
Now to Hunt harder.
My decision on .280ai was after a few suggested it I read enough to convince myself it's the right choice coupled with my admiration of the 7mm calibre.
