I am looking at various 6.5 PRC rifles and noticed the Howa Carbon. It seems like a lot for the money, Howa action, HS Precision stock and Carbon barrel. Does anyone know who makes the barrel? Any info on this rifle would be appreciated.

I was just trying to find that answer, and according to their website, they only make that rifle in 6.5cm. That could be wrong, but that's what it shows.

It is here: https://www.howausa.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/2021_lsi_catalog_LR-LQ_V2.pdf

Just scroll down a little, below the Carbon Elevate, the Carbon Fiber.

I have heard all good about the Howa/Vanguard action except a little heavy, with an HS Precision again it seems to me the barrel would determine, but a lot of specs for the money. I handled a Savage with the Carbon stock and I just don't care for the stock.

I'm a huge fan of the Howa actions. I have a pile of rebarreled Weatherby vanguard rifles. They are inexpensive and they are excellent donor actions IMHO.

That was what drove me to this post.

I was considering the Savage ultralight in 280ai, just because you can buy the rifle for a few hundred dollars more than you can buy the barrel alone, but I've seen way too many of them being dumped on this forum in 6.5prc. Any time I see people unloading the same model of rifle over and over again, especially in a super hot cartridge, they can say whatever they want, but there is something about those rifles that people don't like. Maybe they won't shoot, or maybe it's coincidence, but I'm out. There are probably 3 of them for sale in the classifieds right now.

They look interesting, but there is a lot of competition at that price point. Seekins Havak comes to mind, and its 0.9lbs lighter based on public specs. You can almost put together your own custom with a prefit, albeit not with a carbon barrel.

Street price on the Howa should be lower than the listed $1,819 MSRP, but who knows how much lower.

I'm biased in not thinking carbon barrels are worth a ton unless you're looking to run a can and save weight, so take this with a grain of salt.

Yes I think one could likely be bought for well under the MSRP, less likely with something like the Seekins.
Building one is an option as you said, I have a long action M700 .270 and a B& C stock about like the HS (close) sitting there, could get a different bolt or go RPM, I still think of that.

They are on GB anywhere from $1,000 ish up to $1,500 ish.

They also just came out with an all carbon rifle for under $1,000 that's under 5 lbs. A custom under 5 lbs will be 2.5-3x that price.

I had only looked at the HS Precision model mentioned in the OP. The $1,800+ MSRP seems high to me, glad street price is lower.

I looked into the model you mentioned. It's interesting, but being on their micro action you're limited to AR length calibers. One in 6.5 grendel would be cool, but not first first choice for hunting.

Glad to see them moving towards lightweight stuff, always liked the action but the rifles seemed heavier than necessary. Their mountain ascent seemed like a winner, but they stopped making it after a few years.

6.5 PRC, .308 also at the moment, with all short and long actions coming soon.

Yeah their Alpine rifle was pretty sweet. The slabbed actions like on the Alpine are quite a bit lighter than the others.

They show retail at $1,389.00, likely can get one around 1000-1100.
