For the past couple of years I have had a goal of making the VHA 1000 yard club with a run of the mill .22-250 shooting 55 grain bullets. I have been using a reworked Kimber 84M Varmint topped with a 6.5-20 Leupold with target turrets shooting 55 Horn V-Max bullets and a Remington VSSF II topped off with a 5.5-22 Nightforce shooting 55 grain Bergers.

I teach school in central Wyoming so I have plenty of time to be picky about the weather. Yesterday was calm as can be and I got a 1047 yard kill just after 7:00 am. I don't even want to dicuss the resources that went into shooting a p-dog at that distance with a .22 caliber shooting 55 grainers.

Now that I made my goal, the barrel is coming off of the Remington in favor of a .260 tube. Anyhow, I did learn a lot of stuff along the way. For instance, I once considered a varmint weight .22-250 a long range rifle. It isn't...

must be nice....

to have a rifle in your vehical on school grounds. You can't even come to work with a gun in your car here in, "the socialists republic of New Joisey".

I dial the turrets. Exbal called for 37.5 MOA but I ended up with 34 MOA. I figure the 3 foot difference is a combination of mirage, not accounting for multiple BCs, slight elevation, and mojo and/or juju.

Like a dummy I took a couple of pics of the location and my gear with my camera. The pics of the rodent corpse are on my buddy's camera. I'll post as soon as he e-mails them.

Good shooting! Glad to hear you finally made it. It is one of my goals as well.

Yup, the peoples' republic of NJ. This state is horrible, maybe little CA? I'm gonna move outta here once I'm out of school.

Congratulations to anyone who made the move.

Well done on the 1k Kill. I am in the VHA and so far I have connected at over 1000 yards with my 25-06AI but the PD crawled into it hole so I cannot count it as a kill I will get there some day. Just some Information for the hunter who said he cannot have a firearm in his vehicle at work. This issue has been through the courts with the help of the NRA and the ruling is that an employer cannot fire or disipline an employee for having a firearm in there locked vehicle on private property. I wish I could remember where the ruling was on this but rite now I can't If I find it I will post the link.

Congrats on the 1K club!
Different cartridge with a fast twist barrel will make the same distances and further easier.
