Limited experiences here but what I've seen is exactly as described. LR not penetrating much on closer shots.
I've had great luck with 160ab in my 7mag.
watched my pops shoot the 175 LR in his 7RUM into a broadside caribou twice at 250 yards. No exits.
Buddy shot a cow elk at right at 200y broadside with a 7mag and the 168LR. Again no exit. Lots of internal damage but no blood trail. Luckily she died in the open.
shoot the 160ab with h1000 or rl26 and kill things

I've shot several elk with both. Regular AB will pass though most of the time, smaller wound channel but killed every elk i shot with them in 1 shot.
LRAB's are softer, general front half of bullet will fragment and bonded core will stay together. I have never had one of these pass through. Bonded core has been under off side hide.
ABLR's are more finicky to get to shoot that the AB's
I would use either with confidence, but for what OP asked I think the regular AB would be the best choice for the given distances.

I also will not use then again. This past fall a whitetail buck at 300 yards. 6.5x300 win improved. 142 ablr at 3350. Impact velocity figured out at 2800. Shoulder blade hit and the bullet bombed. Crater the size of a baseball and no further penetration. Nothing made it into the ribcage. I called nosler this past friday and his response was(well it is a long range bullet) God christ what an answer. I told him if they put the ablr nose on a standard accubond they might have something. No more forever. I have not shot the terminal ascent but that is where I am heading. The only bullet made in the long and slippery that is stout.Excepting the badlands bullet. Try and see which the gun likes.
I haven't used the regular AB before but have used the ABLR a fair amount mainly the 168gr. I've harvested an antelope and a bull with them both at around 300 yards and they performed excellent. They group really well also they just like to be seated fairly far back from the lands in my experience.

My experience with ABLRs has been that they are a lot fussier than the Accubond in 300 WBY, 300 WM, 6.5x284, and 6.5-06. In fact I have not been able to achieve satisfactory groups with ABLRs. Want to buy some?

Pm me if you've got 210's, I'd probably buy them.
But just so you're aware (in case you hadn't tried) they group best with .090-.110" of jump. If you don't give them jump they won't group well in any gun I've tried. Giving them jump "usually" fixes it. But some guns just don't like some bullets.
If you don't feel like trying though I'd probably take a box or two of 210's off your hand depending on price.

At mag length I have about .250" jump. My best group from two different rifles (one Vanguard and one Model 70) was just under 2" with 83 grains of H1000, avg velocity of 2940. I burned almost two pounds of powder to achieve this result. I gave up and went back to 180s, where I'm consistently at .75 - 1" groups with most bullets; .75" being with Hammer Hunter 181s.
