Badlands Precision Bullets thread - From BC to terminal ballistics

More than just some time. Lol. This was about a 6 year project.
I'll be using the 250 SBDII on pronghorn, deer and elk again this year, will have a good basis for comparison to last year using the 270 SBD on the same animals. I will update in this thread, just got them in the mail so load developement is about to begin.

in case I missed it, what's everyone seeing for jump tolerance on these rounds? I can load my 338 rum to 3.810 and still get a round down the box, but it's on the edge of not ejecting through the port. At that length, I'd be jumping at least .150in and a little more if I make it so the live rounds eject. My berger 250gr tactical hybrid load is at .175in jump and one holes, so I'm hoping these will tolerate that massive leap. Based on the bearing surface appearance, it would be **** near free of the case before it contacts the lands.

Jason, the creator of the badlands bullets, told me to start 15-30k off lands.

Finally got out for load work up for the SBD2 110gr .257.

ive got a 25-06 on a tikka action with a 26in Douglass #3 1:7 twist. Could not get this barrel to shoot the 131 ACEs and wasted a lot of powder and primers trying. Was worried this barrel was a dud!

did a combo ladder test/initial 2 shot groups to get a baseline and see if they would stabilize. Retumbo, hornady 1x fired, fed 215M

Pretty excited about the area between 58-59grains! Chrono on 59.5 grains was 3315fps so final load should be pretty close to 3300. No pressure signs at 59.5.

more to follow

25-06 with 26in 1:7tw

I'm getting a consistent 1MOA with 59.1gr retumbo, fed 215M, hornady 1x brass.

3336fps
ES 6

found pressure up at 3380.

should be a hammer on deer! Now to verify drops and BC

Splat.

Ok, took a bit to get around to it, but I got some of the 250 SBDII's loaded up for the .338 Norma. They are gonna be seated at .025" off, which comes out to 3.681" in my standard throated chamber with a couple hundred rounds down it. I'm gonna test out N570 and N565. Going off of data from several references and my own experience, I decided to work from 91 up to 97 grains of N570, I doubt I will get to 97 grains before I hit my max, which I plan on stopping around 2900, but even if I do, using my 6" drop tube I can still hear powder moving around in the case, so it is not compressed. N570 reacts really well to drop tubes, the kernels are dang near the size of bullet ants ha ha. I will probably not finish the N565 work up either, as I went from 86 up to 92.5 grains. But whenever I hit my velocity max, I'll just pull the rest. Should be fun!!

What 97 grains of N570 looks like in Peterson brass after a 6" drop tube

Ready to rock doc!!

On a separate note, I checked tip alignment and out of the 100 .338 250 grain SBDII bullets I have, there was 6 that had a misalignment that could be seen, two of them were pretty bad, the photo below being the worst. But in this pressure work up I'm getting rid of them, hopefully before I purchase more of these after my load is developed they have it figured out and can get them squared up properly. Even if they don't seem to affect accuracy of the larger bullets, we are still paying a significant premium for these bullets over Hornady eld's, Bergers, Noslers etc., so it would be expected to see properly aligned tips, especially on the smaller bullets, because on a 250 grain bullet, the misaligned tip (if it weighs 5 grains as an example) is only 2% of the bullets weight, but the same tip on a 70 grain .224 bullet is a little over 7% of it's weight. This may or may not make a difference, but I think from a premium bullet manufacturers standpoint, it would be a good thing to get fixed to ensure they continue to grow their client base.

Anyone try the 125 BD2 6.5mm? I have a 21" supressed Saum in the works, feel this bullet with RL23 will be a good setup. I ran 122 Cayuga in a 26" saum to 3550 with rl23 and no psi in adg brass

i have some. Just haven't had time to load them yet. I have a 21" prc. I'm going to try rl26 and see what happens.

WOW !! As much as I love big, heavy for caliber bullets I also love fast, flat laser trajectories too. They are hard to beat inside ~700 yards.

I loved everything about this bullet at this speed on deer/antelope. I put 3 shots through quartered elk vitals 575y, 4-6" further back than I liked, but he took them like he'd never been hit. 4th round was high shoulder and it hit him like lightning, instant flop/dead.

I bought a box of 122gr Cayuga's for my PRC as I liked the high BC however from what I've seen since then he recommends his bullets for shooting bone rather than the pocket lung shots which I do not want to do on white tails.

Since I'm a lung shooter I've dropped them in favor of the Hammers but I'm still interested in the Badlands as they have a much better BC.
