7mm REM Mag

My gunsmith friend in the LA area hunts with the Barnes bullets, says they are great. I'd try the Hammers though, could never get the Barnes to shoot accurately. The Ca. no lead restricts your choices greatly. Good luck

My 7 mag will be here tomorrow. I have some 168 Bergers and 150 Hammer absolute hunters put away for probably half the barrel life. I have an 8 twist so heavier Hammers or 195 Bergers will probably see some barrel time as well but im thinking that the cartridge will shine with the mid weight bullets.

Barnes bullets need a deeper seating depth. I run 150gr. TTSX Seated .090 off the lands. These are 200 yards just to find the best grouping and then zero'd with the .090's. Spoke with a Barnes tech and was told to start at .070 and work back.

Ty! Accurately as in what distances?
200 yds. Tried them in .30, 7mm and .270. We used to get them free for hunts in the northern Az Condor habitat so the birds wouldn't be poisoned by lead in gut piles. Wasn't mandatory but a great offer if you shoot Wby, free brass is welcome.

Unless you have to use all copper or are going after elk, moose. I would not recommend the TTSX for deer. Very dense high sd bullet. Unless you hit bone it just zips thru with minimal hydrostatic shock. At least that was my experience.

The Junior hunts in Kaibab, all our kids are using Barnes loaded ammo in .223, .243, .270 and 280AI (handloads, 145 LRX). Most hits average 90 yards. We've not lost a deer, never had to track more than 20 yards, most DRT.
These are generally small does/fawns so cross section of the animal is narrow. Some people have reported narrow wound channels, but we're not seeing it. I bet over the years, the kids have taken 50-60 deer. Probably more.
I do want to slip in some 143 Hammers in the 280AI for one of these kids just to test during this upcoming season.

I had very narrow wound channels almost like a bow shot deer. No hydrostatic shock to lung tissue. Only localized bruising of tissue. Deer ran quite a ways.
