It wasn't a post to make you mad. It was a post to share data and perspective - we can all learn, me included. Facts make reality, if its not based on fact its just opinion.
I used to live in Pa and have killed maybe 60 deer there and yes, the distance we are talking about is way past what I would call ethical - this is an ELR posting forum, past 1000 yards. Right?
Help me understand why a heavier and longer BS bullet would require a slower twist?
Well its not a question of being mad, its simply a question that is best answered by having actually observed what takes place.
And what takes place in eastern states like PA, isnt necessarily the same as in other places.
While hunting long range, the conditions will determine how far we can shoot, not the choice of cartridge or bullet.
As for the twist, (general rule) is that the longer heavier bullets in any caliber require a slower twist barrel. And beyond that, not all bullets of the same weight in a particular caliber will require the same twist.
And the best way to find all that out is to see it for yourself or have an experienced gunsmith advise you.

Ok lets make sure I understand your thoughts and if so, I am going to ask for data.

Your premise is, lets choose a 300 WM cause everyone knows it, a 160 grain bullet would use a 10 twist barrel and a 210 grain bullet would use a 12 twist to be stable?

Well, we try not to use any pip squeak cartridges, so i wouldnt be a good person to be asking about 300 WMs. lol
But i would be of the (opinion) at least that a 10 twist barrel would be a pretty good all round choice for that cartridge.
