Hey, I thought it would be a great idea to take a nice warm mid-winter hunt to far sw Texas. What a great way to break up the winter! Hah !!! In my experience, hunts that start off rough, often end up with a pot of gold at the end. This was one of those hunts. I'll attach some pics and let them speak for themselves. This was an Outfitted hunt which took place last week on a 35,000 acre private ranch @ 16 miles north of Mexico in the high desert. In fact, those far mtns ARE Mexico. Hope you guys enjoy the pics. This Ram was 31" on one side, 30" on the broomed side, with unbelievable mass. He was 13 years old. Scored 350.8 ( whatever that means ). Will place high in the book. Watched him and his buddies at 1347 yds. then worked around to an adjacent canyon and shot him at 400 yds. These sheep are quite tough and I was told to break the shoulder... so I did, with a 7Rem Mag shooting 180 gr Berger VLD Hunting bullets out of a Best Of The West rifle and Huskemaw 5x20. Set the pwr on the scope to 15 to increase fov and stay in scope after the shot. Love that gun/scope. No need for any "apps". Saves valuable seconds. Hold & shoot. The internal "level" is SUCH a nice addition. Great trip. Great Ram. Awful weather! Pics are taken where I shot from and also where the ram was.

Great ram. Am headed down in that country in about 10 days. Will be my 3rd hunt for aoudad. It has become addicting.

Nice job on the hunt as well as the story. Out of curiosity, what does a hunt like this set you back?....ball park

That's a great ram! I was in west Tx last month during their first snow storm, luckily the ranch I was on was just out of the snow. Mine was free range on 8k acres and I had a blast. Itook a 12 yr old Roman nosed ram that measured 28"with the tips broken off. Next time I'll do a bigger ranch with more hiking, further south. Great pics of the scenery out there.

Beautiful ram, congratulations. That spiral fluted barrel is gorgeous too.

These hunts seem to me to be running between $3500 and $6,000. Although I understand that $8k is the top... so far. I have watched them get more and more popular. With increased demand will come increased price of course. The hunt took place with Ahrens Ranch and Wildlife. He (Calan Ahrens) won't let you shoot anything under a 10 year old sheep. I was very favorably impressed with him — a retired bull rider. Ohh,... hunt cost: $5200 for 1 on 1.

Just finished first Texas Auodad hunt. My buddy and I each got one. 30-06 with Absolute Hammers. Mine dropped after an excitedly misplaced shot in hips at100 yds Good blood trial went 20 yds.
Buddy shoot same gun 240 yards good shoulder shot. No blood hour long search at dusk. When found no exit wound. Quartering to angle. Bullet ultimately found under skin contra lateral side mid chest. Seems worrisome. Without great guides that trophhy was lost. Guide said we were first clients ever not to have a ram DRT.
DRT is huge in rough terrain. Might go back to old school bullets.
