Hello everyone! Going on my first elk hunt this coming fall and will be taking my custom 300 RUM. I typically shoot the 208 ELD M's and it shoots great "1/3 MOA out too 700 yards". Looking for some real world experience using the 208 ELD M's on elk. was thinking of trying Berger 215's but the gun shoots too good for me with the set up i already have set up. Thanks for any advice in advance!

Just my opinion, but I used the 212 ELD X, in my 30-06 at 2720. It shot amazing and I decided to run it for elk this year. Before season I put it into water jugs to see how it'd hold up.

After that I was satisfied it wouldnt grenade.

So it's just my opinion, I'd not wanna put 300 RUM speeds on the ELDs unless I knew I was only going to punch ribs or shoot something after the velocity fell off a bunch. Not saying they might not work great at distance but I think at more than 2700-2800 impact speeds you're putting a pile of stress on the bullet and there is only so much to hold them together. I love them in the 06 though. I call it the 6.5 Creed with some mass! Hahahaha

What bullet would you guys recommend as an alternative?
I've had great luck on deer with the 220 Scenar if you want a little more BC than an Accubond. I tried to hunt elk with them but the elk didn't cooperate. On deer they just poked a nice entrance and exit with mush in between. They're a good compromise bullet that holds together better than an ELD but will still expand real well. Not 100% on this, but they're still thin jacketed but I believe they have a harder alloy core.

200 grain accubonds and retumbo are a killer combo! Here's a bullet I pulled out of a bear.
