Gentlemen I want to Thank You for welcoming me to this group. I am a retired construction worker my children all hunt mainly whitetails on our farm here in Wisconsin. I do have a grown child who was in Swat & trained from a 5th. Special Forces Soldier . My children all respect and enjoy an accurate firearm. Now , question is would a Magnum Research .22LR Switchbolt rimfire be my choice as far as a semi-auto goes ? It's about the Max. $ I intend to spend for a Grand Child. Thank You.

Make it into a project for you and the kiddos. 10-22s are like big kid legos. Same as an AR. I built one off a CST action with a feddersen barrel. There are many options when building and You get the experience and knowledge in doing so. I built it for less than I could buy a Magnum Research for as well😉. i Could have gone cheaper and I could have spent more. I and the girls and very happy with what we built.

Get a Ruger 10/22 and you can upgrade anything and everything on it as they have as many aftermarket parts for them as an AR15 does. First item it to get the BX trigger or have yours worked on. You can add a threaded carbon fiber barrel for $200 if you choose, there are literally thousands of parts for these on Ebay and gunbroker. Kidd is one of the top innovators for the 10/22

Excellent choice as well as the Thompson center version.

Volquartsen is the old good name in 10/22 rifles & parts. Kidd is the new good name in 10/22 rifles and parts. Can't go wrong with either, whether you buy or build. If you opt to build, spend some time on rimfire central's 10/22 sub-forums before purchasing anything. There are a LOT of other parts vendors out there worth knowing about.

The Ruger 10/22 have been the most accurate 22's I've had . The one I've shot for 30 yrs will still hit quarters at a 100 yds . The one that has a bull barrel will hit squirrel's at 300 yds .

Welcome aboard! Can't argue with anything anyone here says. It's a pretty knowledgable, well-versed & experienced group here. Most are very
respectable. All the above are outstanding choices, me being personally familiar with the Marlin, Ruger & especially the Savage A22. I know you know but since you're set on 22's don't rule out .22 WMR's (magnums) as well. They're a hoot, (with a little more punch & slightly costlier ammo). Good luck. They'll love you for it!
