Absolute Hammer load data

A new 7 SAUM just landed in my safe. Built around the168 Berger VLD hunting bullet (@ 2920 FPS), and they do shoot really well! But I've also been waiting to see what the 154 gr. Absolute Hammer (Death Blow) could do.

Neck tension: .003 (No crimp.)
59.0 gr. 2988 FPS
60.0 gr. 3009 FPS
60.5 gr. 3066 FPS
61.0 gr. 3091 FPS
61.5 gr. 3121 FPS
No pressure signs with any of the above, and accuracy was excellent!
(My goal was to develop a load with trajectory matching the custom turret designed for the168 Berger @ 2920 FPS, at least out to 600 yards. The 60.5 gr. load at 3066 FPS does this almost exactly! Subsequently, I'll stop right here. There is a bit more room in the case though.)
 
My bad. I had marked them as entered and didn't actually put them in.

No big deal on my account. I think you do an amazing job! I'm very thankful for this spreadsheet, and reference it very often. Sometimes I wish I was a little braver and pushed every experiment until I got to pressure, but I guess the old-timer in me makes/helps me go slow. Thank you again for all you do!
 
Made it back to the range today and did another test with the 308 and tried the 178AH in my 30-06 for the first time. After talking with Steve I went back and tried using F210 primers rather than F215s with the 308 win. Steve said he had better results with the 210s when working up loads for several 308s. Interesting thing is that if you compare the data below with my data in the spreadsheet using F215s the 210s give me 25-40fps more velocity.

I don't really think much more powder will fit in the case, 59gr was about the start of compression. I think I will try Varget next, looking at what others have posted I think it will be to fast but the only way to know is to test. My goal is to get above 2900. If I can't get there then I will drop down to the 166AH.

Related to the above, I forgot to include the twist rate: 1/8.5"
 
How did this work out? I've got 8# of H4831SC and I was looking at the 140 AH in 7MM (280AI) as a way to use up this powder. My barrel is 22". I am not sure if it's fast enough?

What weight bullet in the 308w?
 
RogerPA I'm glad to see some testing of the 154 y. I'm putting together a 280AI to run that bullet. Just waiting for my barrel to arrive. Was also wanting/hoping H100V will work.
Hornady has H100V listed in their load data with the .280 AI and couple of 150 gr. bullets, with max charges being right around 54/55 grains, and around 2950 FPS. That would indicate there's still a decent amount of room in the case. Powders like imr7828 don't max out until 60 gr. (160 gr bullet) to 63 grains (150 gr. bullet), and none of these indicate "compressed". That's the type of information I've been using to determine which powders might work with the AH's, and where to start. I do have a .280AI with a 1/9" twist that's dedicated to the 140 gr. bullets. (Although I have tested a few 119 gr. AH's too.)
My twist is probably not ideal for the 154's, but if I get a chance in the next few days, I'll stuff a few with H100V and the 154 AH's and see what I get. My barrel is a 24" Christensen, and I'm guessing, based on other experiments, when I get up into the 62/63 grain area the 154's should be in excess of 3100 FPS. Just a guess, not a promise, but I'll post the results.
 
That would be great. Thanks! Mine will be a 24" IBI 1-7.5" twist. My concern was that H100V might be to slow by about 5-6 burn rates. I see Steve had success with R16 with a 155 gr at 3320 FPS!!
