In part three of my reintroduction to nee members of LRH.com, i wanted to talk about a very specialized weapon system i have been producing for over 15 years now. Over the years i have talked 3-4 times more customers OUT of this rifle system then actually build and ship them. The reason is because it is such a specialized weapon system and honestly not a great fit for most shooters. That said, if it does meet your goals and needs, it is a beast!!

The rifle i am referring to is my Xtreme Heavy Sporter, or better known to most as simply the XHS....

while the APS Stalker pays the bills for my shop, and the Raptor LRSS may be the Flagship model, the XHS is a large part of what made my shop know in the shooting community most. At the time i released it, there were very few SUPER MAGNUMs on the market. The XHS was designed specifically around my then new 338 Allen Magnum and 375 Allen Magnum. Both super magnums based on the 408 cheytac parent case.

The XHS was offered in three models, the single shot model pictured below which used a BAT model CT receiver and special heavy contoured stainless barrels with standard length of 32" but often in the 34"-36" range were used. Stocks for this model are the McMillan A5 tactical with asjustable cheek piece or the McMillan SuperMag A5 which is simply a scaled up version of the A5. All XHS rifles have the bottom safety jewell trigger and my large 5 port Painkiller muzzle brake. Felt recoil with the 338 Allen Magnum is pretty much beat discribed as Warm and Fuzzy with the 375 Allen Magnum being a bit more but not much. Extremely comfortable rifles to shoot. It is an EVENT when they go off though!!

The XHS platforms claim to fame was the ability to drive a 300 gr. Berger otm out of the muzzle at 3300-3400 fps depending barrel length. Which it did easily. Early testing on three separate shooting sessions proved this rifle was capable of reaching 3010 yards with consistent repeatable shot placement. By that i mean, the test rifle put three for three shots on my 20" diameter round gong at a measured 3010 yards. At that time, something that was pretty much unheard of.

A second model of the XHS was the XHS XLR repeater Pictured below. This model used the XLR chassis stock with a 7 round detachable magazine that was modified to function with the extreme case design of my 338 and 375 Allen Magnum. Same performance but with a much different look and feel for those wanting a more mil spec looking rifle.

The most common of the XHS line was the standard XHS repeater. This model used the Stiller TAC408 receiver or Cadex CDX-40 receiver With a 7 round detachable mag system. These rifles all use the big McMillan A5 SuperMag stock.

recently, well in the few years, i have switched exclusively to Bartlein barrels and while i was working with them to get set up to make my Raptor LRSS and Stalker Hunter barrel contours, i also sent in drawings for them to make me what i call the Raptor XL barrels. These are available in 32", 34" and 36" length. You will notice in the picture below, they use a similar design as my Raptor LRSS barrels and for the same reason. The explination for that use was detailed in my recent post on the Raptor LRSS.

So now there is also the option for customers to get the XHS Raptor XL model see in these two pictures (above and below). As well as the good old standard XHS (last picture)

the XHS rifles are very large rifles, long and heavy with standard weight being around 16-17 lbs for bare rifle weight on the single shots and 18-19 lbs on the repeaters. They are designed for use in the 1000 yard and beyond range to deliver precision shot placement with extreme ballistic performance and hard to believe terminal performance.

the XHS rifles are available in the following chambers:
338 cheytac
375 cheytac
408 cheytac

338 Allen Magnum
375 Allen Magnum
410 Allen Magnum
45 Allen Tactical
50 Allen Tactical

as mentioned earlier, i generally talk most customers out of these rifles as i would much rather build you a rifle you would use often instead of a safe queen if you will. That said, customers the boss and if your looking for an extremely precision, extremely powerful weapon system that is extremely easy to load for and shoot, the Allen Precision Shooting XHS is an extremely impressive weapon system!!

As the owner of one of the rifles pictured above I will say they are in a class of their own. Mine was built for a specific purpose, long range big game. It is a 375AM and will hit 3400 with the 350gr Sierra match bullets. I will be working on some 35ogr cutting edge stuff this next year. It is not something to pack around unless your the hulk. I wouldn't trade it for anything though. Kirby will build it as you want it and that is not always something you get with a custom smith. I had very specific details and Kirby nailed them.

Hey fifty, do you do chambering in your Allen xpress on barrels not for your guns? I have an order in on a defiance single shot lapua sized action and I kinda want to try one of your magnums. One of those "gotta try it once" things for me, before rebarreling to something a little more sane, like a 338 lapua. I just want to have an extremely overbore 30 cal to try 2 mile shooting with the hornady 250 atips, that's also capable of long range hunting with the 245 Bergers.

What powders do you usually run with your 300 Allen xpress? I've got 8 lbs US869 and 8 lbs 24n41, which I've heard works well in the 300 terminator (very similar cartridge but with a graduated +p throat)

I will install barrels on other receivers or build using other parts but do not offer prefit type barrels.

RL33 is almost magical in my 300 AX with any bullet from 200 to 245 grains. US869 will work well also, its a bit on the slow side and will burn a bit dirty until you reach top working pressures but it will certainly make good loads.

I can say they are top of the game. My .375 pushes the 400gr at 3180fps and that's very soft load.
Myself and others were able to make first round hits out to 1300 yards on a recent trip. Not super far but most of the shooters had never shot over 200 yards and not able to hit 400 with the rifles they shot and thought were accurate. I can say as the owner even I was impressed with the payload it carried. It was able to flip the target hanging on 3' chains up and over the 4x4 it hung off of. 6" .5" thick round gong.

The old 375 AM does pack a serious load out to very long ranges and with no need to red line the pressures as you well know. Thats the design goal of all my wildcats, performance without excessive stress, use a big engine to do the work, not extreme pressure!! I will be starting line of posts talking in detail about each of my wildcats soon, just to reintroduce them as i did my rifle products.

That's good to know. I'd have no issue sending in my action when I get it. But it's a pretty long wait time so it'll be months til I get it anyways. I'll probably be in touch when I actually get the action in hand (long lead time right now)

have you tried the 250 Atips yet? I've heard some people are using them on game but I haven't heard enough yet to try that, but they look perfect for 2 mile+ steel shooting with the 300 AX. And if they can perform well on game (some people are saying they are but again, haven't seen it for myself and I'm scared to try) then it would be an awesome bullet for ELR hunting

I have not done much testing with them yet. Main reason is the lack of availability most of the time. Hornady seems to do a limited run or even float the idea of something to the public and then wait to see what the interest is before jumping in with both feet. The Atips certainly look interesting but until i can tell my customers they can get the bullets i am recommending, tend to hold off on recommending them. It will come though if they become more available.

That's interesting. They're all over the place up here In the Midwest. Sportsman's warehouse has them, and some local stores have them as well. I think I also saw a good stock of them at scheel's a month or so ago.

Ye
I have seen the smaller caliber versions but none of the larger caliber
Yeah I see a lot of the 30 caliber, 230 and 250. Haven't seen any of the 338 versions around. But I don't shoot 338 currently, so I guess I haven't looked very hard for them either. I just love my 30 cals and 6mm's too much

Yep lots of 250 atips and 6.5 here but as Kirby knows we waited well over one year for some .375 390gr and they never showed up.
Starting to really sour on hornady. I get releasing it and taking some time but to not have a single order placed in the field after a year is crazy.
