Powder? Why is there none?

As the heading says, why is there no powder? I regularly shop 3 good sized gun shops that are not Box stores, the owners tell me they have thousands and thousands of dollars of powder on order from their regular wholesalers and have virtually not seen any powder in over a year!
This can't just be a hoarding issue, is someone in this government halting shipments as much of it is manufactured off shore? Friends in Europe say they have powder.
Any insight???
Until the retailer's start limiting quantities to stop the un-necessary hoarding, and allow the supply chain a chance to recover....it will never stop! It's just that easy! Just like when Covid first came out and you couldn't get dozens...if not a few hundred grocery items....didn't take long to realize....OH GOSH...MAYBE EVERYONE SHOULD GET "SOMETHING" to EAT ....how long did it take then till shelves were full again! STOP THE HOARDERS...LIMIT SUPPLY!

I think COVID had a play in the ammo/reloading shortage situation but there's way more FEAR that people are experiencing then I have ever seen in my life. When you insight fear you can rule everyone.

Well said

As I posted in another thread, it isn't totally that cut and dried. I personally haven't bought a single .22/powder/primer in over a year. Since well before the Covid pandemic hit. I got "caught short" in the Obama shortage so once that was over, I bought stuff when I saw it for a good price. So now I have more .22's, powder/primers/reloading components than I really need right at this second. I would use it all in ten years... but suddenly people are willing to pay crazy prices for it. So I'm not a hoarder or a scalper... but I'm not totally stupid either... I'm not going to sell the things I bought when they were easy to get for those same prices now to people who didn't "see ahead" and stock up. But if I actually dare to sell things for these crazy prices, then I'm just somehow the bad guy in the whole thing.

Result is... it's easier to just sit back and keep what you have rather than dealing with all the negative energy!

Guys and girls just this morning I saw a case of Magic bullets 143 ELD-X selling on Gun Broker for 1026.00 plus shipping that's 200 count of Hornady's magic and I thought I heard that Biden was made president two bits that is unbelievable. But back to real times our man at wholesale ware house said he thinks it maybe two years before they return to sane prices.

Boy-see, same here. Not hording, but I need 6.5 creedmore stock and powder... which I've been unable to source since I purchased my Axis 2, four months ago :-(. Well, I actually got 50 pieces of hornady brass. That's all.
I can help you with some once fired 6.5 Creed brass if you need some that bad. Just pm me

A couple months back...I stumbled upon a couple 8# jugs each of AA4350 and AA4064. My wallet tried to jump out of my pocket but my conscience talked me out of it. Should have listened to my wallet that day. I usually dont shoot the AA stuff, but I could have worked it out easily enough. I did buy 8# of H335 and Varget so that's a bit of comfort, even though they're close neighbors in burn rate.

A lesson to be learned...get it while you can, in case tomorrow you can't. It doesn't spread very far that way, but these days seem to be different than the past. Adapt and learn.

I see it listed in Reloading section...but it might be better in the classifieds....lol....anyone with surplus might be willing to sell!
No sir, it's in the Classifieds- Reloading Equipment and Components.

It's a perfect storm of things really: 1) flood of new gun owners resulting from the Floyd riots; 2) political sea change with leadership that threatens gun rights; 3) COVID boredom; and 4) hoarding. If the powder shortage of 2013-2015 is any indicator, it will be a good year before we see any relief. At my local shop they are limiting purchases to 100 primers per person....and they are $9 per 100. OMG!

your local gun shop is putting it to you 1 here tried it with powder and everyone soon let them know we would not be dealing with them any longer

JWM67 - you are spot on. I wish we could coordinate a boycott effort like that, but their clientele is too broad. These small businesses are the first to wave the "shop local" flag when the economy is hurting, and then you see ridiculousness like this. Makes me sick.
