help with 223 load using 55 grain nosler ballistic tip

i wanna get a load put together using 223 in a 16 inch AR barrel with 1-7 twist using 55 grain nosler ballistic tips at over 3000 fps is this possible ??

ive tried 28 grains of CFE 223 and that gave me 2900 fps. but the case was almost full

I have not tried the 55gr NBT in a 16" barrel but shoot them regularly in 18" and 20"1-8"twist barrel's

been disappointed with CFE223, seems to do better with heavier bullets.

My fav is VVN133, will easily get you over 3000fps. IMR8208XBR also works well, as a third choice LT32

3000 is not realistic out of 16 inch barrel. I have lots of chrono time with AR's. You have 3 things working against you. The carbine length gas tube bleed off pressure very early in the pills travel and the 7 twist slows down the bullets travel. Then length of the barrel.

My buddy tried and he ruined lots of cases with expanded primer pockets and popped primers. It also beats the crud out of the buffer tube weight exceeding much over 2800 fps

7 twist 20 inch barrels with rifle length gas tubes throw 55 gr bullets sideways through paper at 100 yards even decreasing the powder charge to 3000 fps. My rifle had to use 62 and above and liked 75 gr. I actually gave up on 7 twist and went to 8 and 9 in 18 - 20 - 24 inch barrels with rifle length and + 2 inch piston systems

You are giving up 8 inch of barrel versus the velocities shown in reloading data that will cost you at least 250 fps velocity. Add to that the loss for the gas system, regardless of whether its carbine or midlength, and 3000 is not realistic. If the gas system is carbine you will beat the crap out of of the rifle without an adjustable gas block.

I have to ask, why are you trying for 3000fps with that bullet weight?

Time are different now with shortages of everything. But once you have a lower and upper with parts you can just buy a 18 -20 inch stainless fluted match grade barrel in 8 or 9 twist with a .750 or .625 diameter gas block, rifle length gas tube, and far superior M-lok handguard.

20 inch you can pump out 55's to 3200 with CFE powder 62's and 68 gr right at 3100 fps with Allient 2000 mr powder. I bought 1000's of 62 hpbt with .330 BC and 68 gr hpbt at .355 BC. Once you are out past a few hundred yrds the higher bc bullet are going way faster than 55 gr. I've made some dime sized groups at 200 yard bench rest shooting.

This is my home made 20 inch .625 stainless 1:9 squirrel getter Very light weight even a titanium muzzle brake piston gun 3 pound single stage trigger. 6X24 power

Looks like some nay sayers..................that load gets me well over 3,000fps let us know what happens for you

H 4895 will get some pretty impressive speeds with 55gr. 16 inch barrel is hurting you a little

These fps are out of a 25 inch bolt gun. So it's not comparable to some 16 inch carbine length gas tube that vents off the pressure within 6 or so inches from the beginning of the barrel.
