It's tough to find many places to shoot 1000+ yards here in Iowa, but it can be done. The first attempt I ever made @ 1000 yards was a few years ago with my Savage 243 that had a 24" light varmint CBI 1-8 twist wearing a Vortex Viper PST 6-24X50. I was sending 105gr A-max's down range. That's the pic of me, the gun and target for my member pic. I managed a respectable 4-3/4" 3 shot group at 1000 yards with the first 3 shots I sent down range to the target. We had great wind conditions that day of only about 3-4 mph just coming over my left shoulder at about 7 o'clock. The Strelok Pro ballistics app I have on my phone and my Weatherflow weathermeter provided the needed calculations after previous confirmation at 500 and 750 yards.

I was able to stretch it out a little bit further this year shooting with some buddies using my factory Savage GRS in 6.5 Creedmoor with a Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25X56 sitting on top sending Sierra 140gr HPBT Match down the barrel. This day the wind was a little trickier coming from about 2 o'clock at about 6-8 mph. Again I verified at shorter ranges of 740 and 860 if I remember correctly and these were the 3 shots sent down range at the target that was out @ 1132 yards. It was a 3 shot group that measured under 3 inches. :)

This is a pic of the other guys and the range that day and a pic of my rifle. This is a practice range the boys use to practice for PRS competition shooting.

Grew up down by Burlington.

Got to shoot a couple of the 1000yrd bench comps outside Pella before Gordy quit holding them there. That was sure fun!
The family farm has a nice 1500 yard range that is pretty fun.
Moved to AZ a couple years ago. Lots of room to sling lead out here.
