284 XP-100 Bullet

Well you guys have convinced me! I'm emailing Hammer about which bullet they would recommend, and I'm gonna go with whatever he says. Thanks for the help!

I think you'll like them. Just got off the phone with Steve 10 min ago. Got 300 absolutes in 6.5 and 7mm ordered. Post your results when you get a load. I'm very interested in what your short barrel 284 will do. Steve recommended varget for my 284 Win and a 140 AH.

Gray R, Bears are not hard to kill. I would go with the 140-150 grain bullets if you can get them. The barrel with the twist you got will shoot the heavier bullets and with you only shooting possibly 300 yards or so you shouldn't have to contend with much wind.
My 284's in my XP's shoot the Berger 140's ELD Hunters and Nosler Accubonds into nearly one hole at 100 and 1-1.5" at 200 yards. I have taken several large deer here in Oklahoma in the 140lb. range and took a deer in KS at 150 lb. All dropped after hopping a couple of times, through the lungs.
If you are needing any 140-150 grn bullets for your hunt and can't find them, let me know. I purchased a lot of them a few years ago when Apache Machine built my XP's. The target is the last one I shot last fall at 100 yards, Berger VLD Hunter, 140grn, shooting H4831SC, Fed 210 primer- barrel is 1-9 twist, 16".

I was wondering where you got the stock for you XP and what Apache Machine did in the build and for about how much money?

Sorry, just saw your post. The stock is by HS Precision, Varmint Model. Not sure they are making them anymore. I heard that somewhere.
We are mostly buying McMillan XP stocks now. Apache Machine, in North Wilkesboro, NC did the work. His name is Steven Roe.
I sent them a XP100 in 7BR, which had a lot of round through it for silhouette.
He will True the action, (true bolt lugs and face, receiver face , abatements and threads)-$125.00
Re-barrel- I had him use a Krieger Barrel, 1-9 twist, he recessed the crown, $175.00
Gurardcoat Plus on action & barrel- $140.00
Surface grind recoil lug and reblue- $10.00
Fit barrel channel in stock & inlet bolt handle , release- $ 30.00
Install new extractor- $25.00
The barrel - SS Krieger, 7mm, 1-9 Custom Controu 1.250 to .870 at 16"- $200.00
HS Precision Stock- painted- $325.00

Using my XP100- everything out the door to me- $1,165.00.
He sent a lot of photos to me as he progressed through the built, on the lathe, mill work, fitting. That was fun. It took about 6 months to do.

The only thing I wish I had done was have then install a bolt release lever in the said of the action- that runs about $150.00
He is one of the best I think. I have three of his builds, .284 win. 7BR, and 300SAUM. Most of my stocks are McMillan now. The run about $375.00
The 300 SAUM with target is made by HS Precision, which they don't make anymore but it has a McMillan stock

Photo below is the new McMillan stocks on other People on the pistol forums. You can get them in any color or mixed colors.
