I've been using the 147 eldm out if the 6.5 cm and even at 2700 fps muzzle velocity it's still been brutal on impact and blood shot. We've killed 3 animals with it this year and two were blood shot very bad. The worst was my stepdads cow elk at 470 yards. He hit her in the base of the neck from a broadside shot and she her whole side bloodshot. I mean it was very bad. Had to throw away alot of meat this year. Looking to see what you guys would recommend for a good bullet to remedy this but not give up too much bc. Also, considering a switch in 300 win from the 225 eldm for the same reasons. They both shoot great and are inexpensive but harsh on meat.

After sorting out what I wanted and for recommendations on this site I tried the hammers and they have been simply amazing on everything deer, hogs, Audad, and many other sheep. Absolute best bullets I've ever shot. And I've tried about everything.

So to add to that. When I was looking at max range for my creed I noticed that I was chasing bc and after running my drops seems both the hammer and the eld lost the needed FPS to open reliably. So yes the eld will outdo the hammer at distance but is it still moving fast enough to take game effectively?

Badlands super bulldozer 125 gen 2. They're an aluminum tipped copper hollow point. Yeah the g7 is only 310 or so, they kill, penetrate and run probably 200fps faster.

The only thing I've been worried about with a copper is a bad hit. If it's too far back and gut shot I'd think maybe a bonded bullet lead bullet may work better than a copper. Probably not as good as a vld/eld style (which is my delima and why I'm looking at switching and haven't already). Maybe I'm completely wrong in my thinking here. I may have to try out the hammers and then decide.

Yes with most monos your line of thinking does make sense. But that's what I assume makes the hammers stand out. They really are quite good. I've been through the gambit of monos also. These just stand out. After a few animals I am hooked

A headshot is a low percentage shot and not "my" preference. I like the boiler room area for the least meat damage/lost area esp. for a fragmenting bullet like what you were using. I do not think @huntsman22 suggests a headshot, but rather if you shoot the game on the meaty area, expect meat damage just as you have experienced with your bullet choice and shot placement. Having said that, at least it was not a total loss.

We shot a deer broadside at 90 yards. Right behind the shoulder. Perfect shot placement but the complete facing shoulder was devastated, blood shot jelly throughout. I've shot deer through the shoulder and lost about the same amount of meat. The deer took one step and was dead. The trauma was very severe. The pic is the entrance side.

This is a heart shot at 200Y with my .270 AI propelling the 175 Matrix at 2993 FPS with minimal meat loss/damage ...

... makes for an easy field dress.

Eldx, accubond LR. Don't they make a 156 Berger? I've always gotten good performances from Hornady spire points and SST's out of my .270 out to 500 yards for elk. The hammer might be worth a try.
