I purchased a lefty Savage 110 Timberline in 300WM and will be doing some load development for it (first time reloader) and just joined the local gun club so will be able to shoot out to 600 whenever I please! Anyway, I have a Browning x-bolt that is a tack driver but i cannot come to terms with chopping the barrel to thread for suppressor, it's too pretty the way it is. Will be finding a new home for the x-bolt.

I'll be looking at reloading 170-190 grains as it will be used for open country deer hunting and hopefully elk someday. I have a lot of H4350, has anyone used this for 300WM with success or is H4831 really the ticket for this bullet weight? Primers and H4831 are the two things I cant find.

It's pretty hard to beat H1000 and a 215 Berger Hybrid in a 300WM.

I'm reading H1000 with 200+ grain bullet is the cat's meow. But what are the pro's to a heavier bullet say, within 500 yards? I like to think I can get within 500 yards for a shot on an animal, maybe in the mountains it'd be different but I don't think I'll draw a rifle tags for many years to come.

If your shots will be under 500 yards a good bonded bullet like an regular 180 or 200 gr Accubond is probably the way to go. Over the years the trend has shifted somewhat away from lighter/faster bullets for caliber to heavier for caliber bullets. The main 2 reasons for this are more energy delivered on impact and less wind deflection. If your shots on game will all be under 500 yards it's basically personal preference.

Good info, thanks. I'll see what this savage likes to eat most and go from there! With the can on the end i'll be able to shoot more than a dozen rounds in a day. ha!

I've had really good luck from my savage 300wm on deer using the 200gr Sierra game King leaving the 24" tube at 2900fps. Has taken deer from 50-400yds and performed great.
I'll have to try a few heavier bullets. 2900+/- is ideal. What powder are you using?

0-400. H1000 with 180 grain bullet. NP works well. 80 grains around 3025 is nice.
will flat keel.,,,,

if your game is further than that it hard to beat the 215 h1000 combo around 2850-2900 FPS.

had good luck with H4831SC but speed is slower.

other powders. Rl 22,23,26 are good.

I've had good success/accuracy with the Barnes factory bullets and kinda like the mono for saving meat. Going to test 175 LRX and 190 LRX along with the heavier suggestions y'all mentioned. Will be grabbing H1000 when I see it next.

I like those Game King's, too. Saw good success/great performance with the 140 grainers this year in a cartridge that I won't mention on this thread. 😉

Don't overlook the Berger 210 vld's for your Win Mag. I knocked off a decent buck this year with mine @ 200 yards with one being pushed by 73.1gr RL 26 for 2980 fps muzzle velocity. Darn near knocked him over when it hit him and typical Berger 'blender-like' devastation on the inside. 😁
