I'd like to hear some feedback from guys who have hunted with the 225 eldm, mainly looking to use it for long range elk hunting, 500 yards plus is the norm

They come apart like a Berger. So if you're into that so called "energy dump", then they will work well. I have about 400 of them, but I'll leave Match bullets for paper. I have been told they are tougher than the X version though.

As the ELD-X goes, Hornady told me to never shoot on the shoulder, and don't use them for large bears, and try to keep shots on game above 400 yards. I just can't get down with intentionally buying paper punching bullets for hunting.

Yeah I hear you on not putting them through a shoulder, I've seen similar bullets come apart with shoulder shots.
I will say though, even with what I've seen with "target bullets" grenading on impact I've never had an animal go far.
Unfortunately I can't say the same for bonded hunting bullets

I killed a bull 2 years ago with a 225 from the win mag at 830 yards and if you value the heart as food I would not recommend them. That bull ran 20ish yards before it rolled. Impact velocity was about 2100 FPS and it did its job well. The largest recovered bullet fragment was 70 grains if I remember right. Killed a black bear last year that dropped in its tracks from a shoulder shot at 550 with a baseball sized exit.

What are you shooting them in ? I've got them running 2970's in my RUM with no pressure signs so far.

What was your muzzle velocity? As I said, my RUM is currently pushing them 2970. With that MV, I'm at 1994 at 830 yards.

Ya that was my bad. I clicked on the wrong bullet in my app. Muzzle velocity is 2900. Impact velocity was about 1900. It must be past my bedtime. Thanks for catching my mistake.

Well, if you're at 2900, I definitely need to push them harder lol Why have the RUM otherwise, right?

Properly throated and a long barrel gets me where I am. I have a couple buddies that went the rum route and I set out to match their rums with my win mag. Before I rebarreled it I couldn't compete with them. Now I am only slightly behind one and ahead of the other.

The .300 Win Mag is my all time favorite. I wish my 700 LR was a Win Mag, but I've had a RUM before too.
