Hi folks,

Anyone use the 65gr SBT on Coyotes and Foxes? I have a good load with this bullet over 26gr of TAC.

Just wondering if might be a hit hard for smaller dogs...

Scrummy

They shoot well in my rifle but seemed to pencil at .223 velocities. They need more.velocity I believe to mushroom due to the thicker jackets.

Sounds perfect for coyote and fox if they don't expand.
But if they don't expand they don't create much shock and even a heart lung shot they'll run a ways. I shot 69 SMKs for a year, very accurate in my loading but lost several dogs that would have been DRT with a thinner jacket ed bullet. I hunt for fur and the best combination I've found is a very high speed well constructed bullet that STAYS inside the animal.

That's where I'm at

I shoot them on deer and they work great, no dogs though.
Ok I have been seriously hunting coyotes now and started with 55 NBT accurate but puts big holes in them. I switched to the Hornady 55 SP and it does pretty good out of my 16" AR. I used for the first time this year with a 223AI 53 Vmax and am getting no exits now but in a bolt gun, 17".

Good to know. I'm shooting a bolt gun with a 22" barrel

I use an older slower twist 20" 223 rem bolt rifle with 55 gr sierra hpbt's running at 2900 fps mv they most times don't exit and unless you hit bones that are bigger then ribs don't make big holes . I have had some small pieces of copper exit on bobcats and fox but for the most part they expend all of their energy in the chest cavity . I have reloaded with h335 , imr 4350 , and varget using cci small rifle magnum primers all powders seemed to run well as far as accuracy with my slower twist rate and the 55 gr . bullets from sierra .

They have worked well for me on coyotes @ 3000 fps in .223. They sucked on deer due to being explosive. This is all inside 200yds.
