Chime in experts . Im thinking at least 4.5 . Possibly 5.5. He is a hoss bodied buck for my area . Ive had him as my target buck this year, but he dont do daylight so far. He loves passing through around 4 to 5 am. Im hoping for some luck when this secondary rut kicks in about a week from now. Got 89 pics last night on one camera , at least 7 different bucks , 4 are racked bucks .

Oh , and in case your wondering why i dont just pile up in his bedding area and put him in a permanent bed when he comes home, im on 5, yes 5 acres of hunting land, lol. Divorce makes things difficult in the early stages. Good Lord has blessed me with plenty deer to look at on camera on this little plot of land though . Glass half full, right ?

You sure he's 4-5? His rack looks young. He just looks like a spoiled deer. My buddy shot a fat *** 8 point last year that was only 3 years old. When they have nothing but corn, food plots, and acorns their bodies out grow their horns.

Did you get him BTW? I've only been out 4x...things have been quiet in Smarr. Saw two does, ton of turkeys, and a wounded coyote that I couldn't get a shot on. The next day I was putting corn out and a big *** 10 point walks right up to me (20 yards away) I was in work clothes and no rifle. He was waiting for me to leave for the corn. Didn't see him the next day.

Thick neck, ready to rut, small antlers not in proportion with body size I'm thinking 3 to 3.5 years. Body is smooth don't see much of a muscular body so muscles still developing.

He looks 3 to me.
I've been trying to figure this out myself, and I'm no expert, but all the big bodied mature bucks on our place have a little belly to them, kinda got that mature 40 year old beer belly in people terms! I bet he looks really good in two years.
Those back straps are prime right now.

good point! He's just a thick deer, he doesn't have a gut yet!
older than you think I suspect. Large Pedicles with small bases indicates older deer in most cases. Really hard to tell without broadside pic. First look you say 2-2.5 years old but what appears to be large Pericles with spindly bases indicates deer on decline.

Learning stuff here. Mind if I jump in OP? 2.3 shot this (her first buck) and he had the largest bases I've seen here and he was absolutely heavier than any other deer I've had to drag in GA. He did have one point broken off and had some other signs he'd been fighting. It is a QDMA and it seems to be working as there are some nice deer coming out in the last couple years.
How old is he? And anyone take a stab at weight? Don't have a scale so I don't know the answer.

Antler size compared to Pedicle size in relation to antler diameter just above the Pericles is definately a sign of Age or malnourishment due to injury and that deer does not appear to be malnourished. Pedicles do not decrease in size to age but antlers will.

A deer can be "fat" and still deficient in proteins due to a number of reasons, as deer age protein digestion and absorption decreases. Diminished protein and other nutrients directly affect antler growth but Pericles do not decrease in size and remain as big as they ever were remain the same.
