There I said it I'm addicted to hunting rifles

I'm thinking about adding another gun to my collection and the caliber I'm looking at is the 7wsm for hunting elk in the rainforest of the Oregon coast I'd really like some to here some real hunting experience with this caliber the gun I'm looking at is the tikka so how is the recoil (I refuse to own a gun with a muzzle break so 7mm caliber is about max for me in recoil )here's the list of guns I have on hand I might not even need this
260 Remington
6.5/06
270 wsm
7mm
45/70 (my timber/brush gun)

I think the guns u already have will get the job done just fine and won't gain any performance with a 7wsm. If I were looking for a dedicated elk gun I would go bigger caliber say a 300 wsm or bigger. Well placed shots with a .25-06 will work just fine but a nice 180 or 210 grain bullet sure makes me feel a little better on a bull. They can be tough critters and can suck up some lead sometimes.

I agree with badger, that 7mag will do everything the shortmag will do, if your wanting horsepower and your hunting rain forest go with the 338 win mag can use same brass if you get in a pickle as 7mag, I'm no one to tell you not to buy the 7wsm as I have 6 .284's a 325wsm and several 30's BUT I carry and hunt with the 7mag 90% of the time when I got a elk tag in my pocket, it's never let me down on elk and deer... if your like the rest of us you'll buy it and 2 more 7's just cuz

If you just want a new gun in 7mm WSM, then great! But not seeing it as being any different in practical terms than your 270 WSM & 7mm Rem Mag. Considering hunt location & likely shot distances (coastal rainforest) as well as what you already have, you might consider a .338 Fed or .338-06 for a dedicated elk gun. Larger frontal diameter & heavier bullet weights are a plus on elk, & recoil levels are still tolerable.

From your list, I'd add a high speed 30cal, e.g. 300wsm to extend your collection a bit.

You can get a Tikka in 7wsm? That's rare. If it is a T3 Lite, the Limbsaver 10011 is a must have since these came with a very bad pad, IMO. Recoil will be no issue with a good pad. I love my Win 70 in 7wsm. we've made quite a history together including the shot in my avatar and it prefers 160-162gn class bullets, like the Hornady SST.

The tikka I'm looking at was originally a 300 wsm rebarroled to 7 wsm

Curious if they re barreled the 7wsm with a faster twisted barrel.... That changes things a little, u could run heavies in it then. Like mention earlier tho, dense forrest with possible closer shots I like their ideas of the 325, 338-06 or 338 Federal sized cases.

For my timber/ brush gun my trusty 45/70 (I forgot to add that)

I think you just have the: "Another Gun Itch" LOL and I don't blame you.

It'll do what your other cartridges already do, and you already have a short fatty cartridge.

I'm a 7mm fan but you already have one, a 338-06 like @Frog4aday mentioned spunds good. Get something with a larger diameter bullet.

Again the cartridges you have wil get it done already, so get something different just for fun.

Stay safe

I don't know what kind of 45-70 that you have, but when I am hunting elk or bear in the timber: I use a Marlin Guide Gun in 45-70 with a 425 cast bullet. I can pack that gun all day over down timber and lash it to my pack board when carrying out the first load of meat. I haven't found any other gun that I can get into action as fast as that gun.

I think the plain old 308 with a 150 to 165 mono bullet might be the perfect rifle for what you are talking about using it for or anything you already have would work, but I understand the new gun itch I hope you get to scratch it
