Finally got to try 22 creedmoor on a deer. Well my boy gave me the puppdog eyes, and said can I shoot dad (how do you say no). His longest shot yet 178 yards. 85.5 grain Berger hybrid. Speed unknown as I loaded into new Peterson brass and had to back load down 3 grains to get a smooth opening bolt. Was at 3300 with hornady brass. She only made it 50 yards after the shot. And his first heart shot. Bullet entered and started expanding under hide about a nickel sized hole inside rib cage. Quarter sized at heart, 50 cent piece leaving heart, golf ball exiting rib cage and tennis ball smashing leg bone exiting.

The bigger 22's are absolutely fantastic on small big game like deer and antelope out to 400 or so.

I've used them a ton load for the last 42 years, a standard cnc 55-63 bullet will do you just fine. No need for premiums or special bullets.

They're incredibly capable and highly underrated

I never hesitate to grab my go to 22-250 loaded with 50 grain bullets. I like the 22 creedmoor enough with heavies I'd like to spin on a slow twist barrel for some 50 grain bullet experimentation!!

Yes, they do work. I've been using the 75-80AMAX, 63gr and 65gr Sierras, 62TBBC and the 55 SP and TSX in one load or another since the early 80's. In the 22-250's and AI's, the 75-80gr AMAX and now ELD have been just as deadly as any of my 243's, and the 62TBBC gives very good wounding with deeper penetration. Although, not as good downrange ballistics.

Using rifles and loads that I routinely hit small P-dogs at well beyond 600-700 yards makes for very accurate shooting on deer and pronghorn sized game.

I have shot 75gr Amax almost always while hunting. Found they are a little light for hogs so I loaded some 75gr swift scirroco but haven't hunted with them yet

Cant say enough good things about my 22 creed. It has numerous deer, pig and varmint kills under its belt. Tikka action, benchmark 22" 1/8 twist with ctr stock and magazine. Shooting 75 eldmatch with re26... congrats on the deer!!!

The .224 AMax is now extinct thanks to those melting plastic points but the new .224 75 gr. The ELDM has replaced it. With my self imposed limit of 400 yards on deers, a .22-.250 shooting this & other 75-80 grain .224 is the only rifle I need for all my shooting. A pound of powder lasts a long time at 34-37 grains per throw. For me, the deers are as big as it gets. I have shot rodents about 1/2 section away, 1/2 mile. 7.7 twist.
