So I finally started a 6.5 PRC build on a blueprinted trued rem 700 action. Ordered a proof research barrel 28 inch. Things are looking good. Then I went to go buy ammo. Looking for 6.5 PRC 143gr eldx. Nah, fam.

if you can't find it, build it right?

ordered an RCBS kit with 6.5 PRC and 300WM dies. Easy, right? Nope. Can barely find the bullets (might pull from old 6.5 CM shells), no brass, and not a large rifle primer anywhere even for the highest bidder. Madness.

Any advice wound be appreciated to get a 6.5 143 grain bullet to fly out of a gun at near 3000fps. That was the goal of this project.

Without wanting to be rude, you're about 6 months slow looking for these bullets and probably at least 9 months behind in locating primers. There are primers on Gunbroker but the price will make you faint. Some members have located small amounts in their local gun shops or off the beaten path.

Now, the good news is that there are some excellent hunting bullets still available through some of the major suppliers. They will not be ELD-X you're looking for but they will be of high quality. This is a compromise you need to confront.

I saw some Swift Scirocco and few other types which will work well for hunting. There are still quite a few brands of Match bullets in the supply line.

If you have a local sportsmans warehouse, I'd check there for primers. They usually have some bullets, maybe not what you're looking for but something. Primers come and go. Powder was available online a few weeks back, I'd pick up 8-16 pounds of H1000 if you're looking at PRC and 300WM (refresh powder valleys website a few times a day). I'm getting 3,060 with 140's and a mild H1000 load in mine with a 26" barrel. Lapua brass is available on preorder through creedmoor sports. Hope this helps!

I know I'm late on the bullet runs. Nothing like a good kick in the junk though to remind one not to be stingy when supplies are available.

As I pointed out though, there are bullets available, just not the ones you want to shoot. There are others which will perform to the level you desire.

While I enjoy the 6.5 Creedmoor, when you run it against the PRC the Creedmoor will be at the top of the pressure curve and the PRC will not need to.

Enjoy!:)

If I run a 28inch barrel and 140 grain loads what powder is appropriate for 6.5 CM without hitting the high pressure mark?

I was wondering how long it would be before 6.5 and 300 prc builds and factory rifle buyers would find out that their is no brass or factory ammo available. Hope you find what your looking for.

Drop your bullet weight. Choices are still sparse but some pretty good bullets are still around. While not a 6.5 PRC, I run shorter length creeds but I shoot 123s and 130s. In 19-20 barrels I shoot the 123s at 2 separate nodes, one at 2820 and one near max at 2960. The 130s at 2750. You have to break 800 yards for it to matter. In a PRC you'd have to break 1000. Something to consider.

I see Warshington as your location. If'n you're in the Vantucky area --
the last three times I've been to Fisherman's (Tigard & Delta Park), there was 6.5 PRC brass available. I didn't drink the Koolaid, so won't need it. However, I hesitate to buy Hornady brass for a high pressure round, if I can help it.
