Just finished a build on a 270 Weatherby, 24" Carbon 6 barrel, 1:8 twist. Looking for load data with either the 165 accubond or the 170 berger. Originally I was hoping to try out the 165 matrix as well, but I think those bullets have been discontinued.

Anyway, any info or experience with this cartridge, faster twist and heavier bullets would be greatly appreciated.

This was with a factory 10 twist Accumark and the 165's. I went back to shooti g 140 Accubonds till I put a faster twist on it.

Why? That 0.325" group with H1000 looks great. Especially with a 1:10 twist
What barrel length?

Are you able to still get the matrix 165's?

They grouped pretty decent with some decent ES and SD's. When I took them out to 800 yards I had a hard time keeping them at MOA groups. I don't believe they were fully stabilized for longer ranges, 140 Accubonds held .5 MOA. I sold the last few hundred Matrix bullets earlier this year to another shooter. Curious to see how how Carbon 6 shoots. Is it a pre-fit Carbon?

Berger has data for the 170 but you have to call them.

Dang, I wish I would have known about you dumping those matrix. I want to shoot a couple different heavy bullets to compare.

interesting thought of those bullets not staying stable at long range...

I just got the gun back, haven't broke in the barrel yet. I'm excited and optimistic about seeing what this gun will do.

Also, hopeful that with the new 27 Nosler there will be some new bullets to play with in .277 caliber

As far as I know you can. I know they are working on a new website but you can contact the owner >>> Kurtis Stoutjesdyk <[email protected]>

I have 165s but have not tried them yet. My .270 AI propels the 175 Matrix at 2993 FPS (my current accuracy load) with H4831SC out of 30" Lilja 1:8" 3G. Members are claiming ~100 FPS more with RL-26.

The 165's are borderline stable in a 1-10, we got away with it but we are at a 5600 ft min elevation, rocked a lot of elk with them!! We haven't ran them since the ownership change and the 170 Berger came along which has been phenomenal!!

Yeah, they just kinda fell apart at longer ranges as far as accuracy since I could only test @ 1500' elevation with my 10 twist. Was a bummer... Nice bullets tho. Will give it a try again if I get a faster twisted barrel someday.

A friend just finished a build off a 270wsm Kimber Montana, converted it to 1:8", and has shot the ABLR's I think.

If you would like, I will try to find out what he used even though it is apples vs oranges.

Really looking forward to hearing how this build works out. My custom 270wby (1:10) is very accurate and certainly capable of pushing bigger bullets with the right barrel.

What do you intend to do with it? Punch paper, shoot steel, hunt? and at what ranges. You can certainly reach out with that rig. If you are hunting make sure you are using a proven hunting bullet. Keep in mind that for a given load with a 150gr lead core bullet the same load with a 150gr solid usually results in higher pressures.

Thank you for the information. This will be a hunting rig exclusively. Just looking for a few starting points with different bullets heavier than 150.

Btw thank you for sharing these pics. I like the idea of recording loads, groups, etc on a piece of paper you can then put in a binder for reference.
