Golf Ball at 300 yards ?

I haven't shot a golf ball at 300 but I have shot dimes at 200 and these are one shot at each

Dimes are easy if you stack the deck in your favor! Hang this up at 300 yards and take aim.

This one has been on our gun shop counter for years. Shot by a 222 Rem. at 100 yds.

Not the greatest pic but you can see the entrance - exit. True a little high but it took awhile to find the ball !

We used to shoot golf balls at 300 yards with 300 W/M or bigger. some of us used 45-70's, 338 Win Mags, 416 Rigby's, and once we had a guy come through with a 50 BMG. it was lots of fun. there is nothing like a 416 or a 375 or a 458 caliber hitting the golfball. I still believe they are cleaning up the mess on that part of the range. Yes, the 50 BMG did hit the golfball. the shreds were almost unidentifiable. I hit with a 190 grain 300 W/M. the rest of the guys took pics of the mess. I couldn't; I was laughing too hard to keep the camera steady. it's lots of fun when you hit.

I told my wife about your golf ball shoot and she said, let's set it up, me and my 7mm-08 against you and your 7mm-08. I just got challenged, and she will provably beat me LOL.

LVJ76: All is well and thanks for asking. We have been maintaining isolation as much as possible with only an occasional visit from son and his family after we have discussed their whereabouts. They are being really careful too with a 2 and 4 year old. I hope you and yours are well and safe too!

It was always a fun shoot and like I said the 22-250 and 220 Swift guys "owned" the shoot for most part. But I hit a few with a 300WM and I think they are still in orbit! Never did find any piece of them so who knows how far they went!

Kirsten Joy does the egg off hand at 300 yards with a .22 rimfire and hits on the 3rd shot un edited. Yes she is a championship shooter with tricked out (looks like 10.22)...but can be done. Watch it on you tube.....she is great..

Unlike trick shooting or to see if one can once, the egg/golf ball shoots are for score, so similar to silhouette matches, each bank of five is one shot each ball. Depending on the day/shoot/and number of shooters, we may shoot 10 or more each. I have seen shoots were 25 balls were shot before we had a winner.

I have a golf ball hanging in our computer room that I put a hole in at 300 yards here in Cache Valley Utah.. Multiple shots before I connected. The state run range now gets all antsy if we hang golf balls from the top rail of the target frames so we stopped.

In case you can't hit a golf ball use a bowling ball, they explode when hit with a 30 cal.

That'll be fun to see. I have some Nosler 140gr Fail Safe's that'll do that job with the 7m Rem Mag. Thanks for the idea.

If I can't hit the golf balls then I should provably sell my rifles Lol

Yep, we had those 300yd. golf ball shoot every Saturday a few years back, golf balls were set in plastic bottle caps nailed to 2x4's up on wooden blocks getting them up a couple ft. off the ground, we would all shoot 3 shots and keep eliminating people with misses until we got down to one winner, everyone put a dollar a shot in the hat and several baled out somewhere during the shoot, but most lasted all day . Won my fair share with a Winchester model 70 .243 lots a fun

I shot a golf ball before, 100 yards using a 58 grain Hornady in my .243 Winchester - S&W1500. bullet traveling at 3922 muzzle. Never did find the ball.

Interesting read. These "games" really help a shooter know where they are with their skillset ad where to improve .
There was a competition in the early 90s called "The Mad Minute". There were 10 bowling pins @200M that were to be shot open sights(most used AR15)". Then between 20-50 yds there were 50 more bowling pins, with no shoots mixed in. A pistol along with a shotgun and buckshot were used at the close range pins, the rifleman could help only after he cleared his 10 pins. You started in the standing position, guns on the ground. When the whistle blew, you had one minute to clear all but the no shoots. It was a challenge, a lot of pressure and intense focus not to check how the rest of your team was progressing. It was a lot of fun and you used a bit of ammunition. As a bonus at the end of the day, they brought a car that was headed for salvage and placed it at 200M. I believe it cost $3, but everyone that went in was allowed one 30rd magazine. Almost everyone there took part. Typically you would have about 50 people. When the "fire" command was given, everyone cut loose. It was nothing but dust and parts flying, glass, plastic etc. About the only thing not destroyed were the wheels an tires, those had brick and steel in front of them (as they needed to tow it off the range.
Whatever the game or competition, you can bet that any lack of skill you have will become apparent to you. You do the games long enough you overcome shortcomings and become a more proficient shooter.
