I was wondering if anyone uses a 6 BR for hunting deer. I'm not talking mule deer and elk, living in the south our big white tails deer will be 200-250 #'s and 100-300 yards. I would be shooting 105-108 gr. bullets. Just wanted some of you fella's thoughts that may have one and used it for deer hunting.
thanks

I know of one person who does, it is his only rifle and appears to work well out to 100 yards.

Thanks Ace! Where I hunt would be mostly 100 yards to 150 yards. Small patches in the piney woods and some hardwood (oak trees). I have a 6 BR for bench shooting and was thinking of building another light weight 6 BR for deer hunting.

It's about the same speed or a tick faster than the 6arc and they call the 6arc a deer slayer. I'm sure it will kill deer just fine but a deer slayer well not to sure about that. I have tons of experience with the 6br but never really considered it a go to deer cartridge. It will hammer out to 600 yards with enough accuacy for head shots at that distance. If you can do a 6bra it will pretty much match factory 243 ammo for speed.

Thanks Shep!
You pretty well answered my question, I was thinking about 243 WN as well. Over the years I have harvested deer with 223 and 22-250 but know there limits. I only used them when I wanted to pop a doe nanny for some meat. On hunts where I was hunting Bullwinkle I would use 6.5 CM, 308 or 300 WM according to where I was hunting. I can and was thinking about the 6 BRA as well, This will not be my only rifle for deer hunting and will use it accordingly. Again, I'm getting older and enjoy reloading and just want to build another rifle in a light weight version for deer hunting. Thanks again!!

I use a 6 BR for hogs pretty regularly I shoot the 80gr. hammer hunter It works great, should have zero problems taking deer out to 300 anyway The 105 and 108 should not be an issue with the accuracy of most 6mm BR you should be able to slip the bullet in right were you want it

My 6bra has a 29 inch barrel but it will push a 108 Berger over 3000 no issue. I've shot 115 dtacs from it over 2900. Not sure how much speed loss there would be in a shorter barrel but with the size of the case probably not alot.
Good luck

When I was living in Louisiana I met a pistol shooter who wanted to try long range rifle. We settled 6 BR for him and shot many matches together out to 600 yards. Since that was his only rifle he used it when we would hunt together for Deer. The 95 grain Ballistic Tip worked well on deer, and none of the shots were over 100 yards. I have used the same bullet in my 243 to take mule deer out past 200 yards and none traveled more than 30 yards after being hit. I have considered a 6.5 BR Built for some time now to make a lite weight pack rifle as the 264 Mag. is getting heavy after a day trekking the mountains. Let's know how your built turns out, I am always interested in what other have come up with you might have a great combo Deer / Hog rifle.

Yes, thought about that too. My bench gun uses a mag and I just happen to have a Magpul Hunter stock that I can use and think use the same mag or purchase another. Don't bash me on the Magpul, I like the way they shoulder.

Yeah, that's what I'm building on is a Rem 700 short action. I picked up a 22-250 at a pawn shop at a decent price just for the action. Now my wheels are spinning trying to figure out what to build. I ordered my Trigger Tech trigger and it should be here today. Hey, ask your friend or you might know if you can skim bed the Magpul stock. I'm thinking you can, just wanted your opinion.
