I've been shopping triggers for my 700, and there are a lot of choices. Rifle Basix for instance, has one trigger that goes as low as 4 oz. My rifle will be mainly for targets, but might get hunted with occasionally. Would 1.5 lb be low enough ?

If your shooting at extended ranges I would want ounces.
If your kids or buddy's may use the rifle then pounds for sure.
Personally I know I can't accomplish the group's I get without the lower weight pulls so for the guns that I use beyond 500 yards its ounces for me. But the ones I share with my boys are around 2lbs. If I put them behind the cool guns they get a lecture on "finger off trigger till target in retical". Also I wouldn't let them carry it.

Your style of intended use should help you decide. If you hike in and lay in one spot all day....ounces. if you bust brush.... pounds

At least that's how I determine what I'm using that day.

Thanks, that helps a lot. Our son has his own rifles, so that does out it in perspective.

Timney, Triggertech, Rifle Basix, and Jewell. This is harder than picking cereal at the grocery store lol

The Triggertech sounds interesting, with the "Frictionless Release". Ive used Rifle Basix in my Rugers, and enjoy them a lot. Ahhhhh, choices.

Personally I love the TriggerTech triggers. I have one currently but plan to add a couple more to upgrade my other rifles. I like them set at 1.5lbs. I don't like a hair trigger but I don't like squeezing one all day either haha.

I carry with a round in the chamber. I need to know it won't jar off and that the safety is 100%. I find that easier to accomplish with a ~1.5lb or higher trigger. To add to that, I find a 1.5lb trigger to light to acquire with cold hands. My field rifles are 2-3lbs which is light!

I have Jewell(preferred), Triggertech, Canjar, Timney and Jard Triggers. On the rifles only used by me, my triggers will be anywhere from 10 to 16 oz depending on intended purpose of that particular rifle! For rifles that will be used by clients or family, they're set at 2-2.5 lbs. I don't recommend less than 2 lbs to any of my friends or clients who aren't used to a lighter pull......once they get used to 2 lbs, they can try lighter if they want. I've set triggers for too many friends at under 2 lbs just to have them ask me to increase the weight after they've had them go off when they weren't ready. They think because I shoot light triggers, they can, as well.....what they don't realize is I've been shooting sub 1 lb triggers for nearly 50 years.

It was always the same for Glocks. Friends would come to me wanting tuned triggers, with low weights. I did one for a guy, against my advice, he wanted this whole drop in competition unit. He had me put a stock setup back in it after he put a round through his livingroom window.

I am one that likes a 2 pound 6 ounce trigger which is easy to accomplish with the OLD Rem. 700 trigger. I can not feel my finger on a trigger much under this weight. I want to feel my finger on the trigger then with a little squeeze have it brake like glass. I tried the light trigger stuff long ago. Had everything from setting the trigger when it was in the 60ish * and then going out in below freezing temp and trigger would not allow cocking of the rifle to firing the rifle before I was ready because I could not feel the trigger. But to each his own.

I am a hunter, first. I set all my rifle triggers at 2lbs across the board. That may not be the best for shooting groups off a bench, but it is good for me in the field which is the most important to me, and I find the consistency across all platforms to be very helpful. No need to re-learn a trigger whenever I pick up a different rifle, and, when I am practicing with one trigger, I am practicing with them all.

I think trigger weight also depends on how sensitive your finger is and how light of a touch you have. I have messed around with triggers in the 4-6oz range but nothing on my rifles is that light. I do have a set trigger on my Hawken flintlock that's tuned to about 6oz. I like that but it takes a lot of shooting to get use to it. I'm a machinist and I have a light touch with some of the tools and machines I have to work with, but if you're not use to being easy a light trigger isn't for you.
