H4831SC in 6.5 PRC...anyone else??

Just finished testing some loads with the 122gr Lehigh Defense Controlled Chaos using H4831SC in an X-Bolt Pro LR with a 26" barrel.

52 - 2746
52.5 - 2750
53 - 2788
53.5 - 2807
54 - 2860
54.5 - 2874
55 - 2890

Honestly those numbers are way lower than I was expecting thought the barrel only has 16 rounds on it so it might speed up. I'm going to rerun quickload with the fired brass to get a more accurate volume.

CMP, Our Pro rifles do have factory lapped barrels so another 60 or so rounds will get you close to your max velocity, which is somewhat fewer rounds than most non-lapped barrels require.

I found a good load with H4831sc, out of bergara hmr 26 inch. 135gr A-Tip, 56gr h4831sc, OAL 2.9, 200cci primer, it shoots just under .4 inches. Also found good groups wit's h1000.

Alex, is that bottom target with a 2.9 OAL really a 135 grain A-Tip or did you transpose 153 grain A-Tip accidentally?

Eric B.
The bottom is a 135 at 2.9oal (5 shot group). Ive had several half MOA loads with that bullet. I just threw the two other groups of the 153gr A-Tip in with it. All of the information on the targets is correct.

Good to know that A-tip is so accurate in either weight. But A-Tips are for paper punching and at best OK for light skinned game like antelope. No?
Lots of people been using the a tips on big game and having excellent success. Know of a couple big bulls hammered with the 135 and worked very well

I have looked into that and it appears that they act similar to a varmint bullet, and they dump all of their energy very quickly. I contacted hornady about hunting with them and they only recommend using the eld-x, but I intend to try the 135gr on whitetail deer this week out to 400-600 yards and I have no doubt that it will do a great job.

It's possible. I've shot 2 wolves and several yotes with the 135. All pass through and fur friendly. Except the one wolf I shot in the face. That was bad. The elk I saw photos of the bullets passed through. I'd expect the bullet to act like a berger tho.

I'm glad you mentioned H4831 in the 6.5 PRC. I was thinking it would be good
I've been using Retumbo .H1000.H869. IMR 8133 and 7977, RL33 .Have loaded some with RL26 but have not tested yet. Got some N570 N565 and N560 and RL23, 19 and 17 to try also. Just need more time !
How's the869 powder work. I'd imagine to slow?

Its really slow, but Ive been seeing loads out for it all over the place. But i have seen where some guys are using it and actually like it.

I didn't have much luck with US869 or RL33. Too slow. Max out powder capacity before anywhere near max. Sure same with N570 and Retumbo. Buddy had happen with N565. Had good luck with RL26 with 156 Berger's and RL23 with 124 Hammer Hunters and 121 Absolute Hammers .

I just loaded up some test loads of 156gr berger with N560, and imr 8133. But the imr 8133 really fills up the case to where they are compressed unlike the N560 so I'm curious to see what will shoot better.
