Thinking of a new build and need advice on caliber

So.... To revive an old thread.... I'm starting to seriously consider a 375h&h. I already have the barrel, Reloading supplies and chassis. If I'm just going to go 16" barrel I already have a good action, any shorter and I'll need need to buy a new one to designate it as a pistol.

Any of you guys have any experience with a 375h&h with a 12-16 inch barrel?

I've shot one in a 15" encore pistol. It was pretty rowdy but manageable. I dont have the data in front of me, but I recall it wasn't that much more powerful than a 375-284 we had tried. But if you already have a lot of the items needed, might as well put it together.

I've been thinking of a 416 Ruger or 338 Win Mag for my XP. The 7mm BR is a bit boring. 😎 I do have a 284 reamer though. ;)

I have a switch barrel set up 6.5 PRC on a bighorn action proof barrel and a S.S. 16 1/4 inch H&H barrel to switch on it for fishing ect up here with black collar arms chassis and folder stock for packing around 20 mins to change barrels and stocks. https://blackcollararms.com/

What kind of velocity to you get out of the 16" h&h?

Also, out of the 6.5prc if you're willing to share.

never checked the 375 it is for just up close bear work I drop a aimpoint on it when in 375 the 6.5prc is a proof barrel 26 inch and 2972 with Hornady match ammo here is a target using it this spring

Thats soom good shooting there!
For some reason I thought you had a 10" 6.5prc lol.

How's the muzzle blast on the 375? Do you use a brake?

If I end up doing the 375h&h route with say a 16" barrel. I think I'd be looking at either the 235tsx or the 270lrx (for the lower minimum expansion velocity) to shoot out of it.

Any ideas what I might expect for velocity out that short barrel with either of those?

Barnes load data is from a 24" barrel and lists max velocity for the 235tsx @3000 and the 270lrx @2840

the 6.5 prc is a 26 inch proof the 375 well even with the brake will realy do your ears in but as I said it is just a fishing set up for bears up close

So, it looks like the old h&h might not be a bad fit.. According to quickload I should be able to run the 270lrx up to 2600 using RL17 and have a 98% complete burn all in a 16" barrel.

I should be able to get the 235tsx up to 2750, but it's BC is so low that the 270lrx starts to beat it out by 300yds.

Does this seem realistic to you guys with more short barrel experience?
